Yeah I wonder if the writers actually just don't know poo poo about law or are being somehow crazy accurate to how it's represented in Marvel, maybe? I am pretty sure actual comic book issues are considered admissible evidence in She Hulk's court cases.

I think it's safe to say the writers are making everything law-related up out of half remembered episodes of Matlock.

Marvel actually has a writer right now, in fact the current DD writer, who is a practicing NY attorney. He also did a pretty good She Hulk run that is almost all courtroom/legal stuff.

I think that was Dan Slott, and it was also a much more comedic run. They used to keep long boxes full of evidence just in case. They had speedster interns who had no combat as a clause in their contracts because they also bled out super fast. In one of the older Shulk comics I'm pretty sure she won a case in a court of higher beings because the vital evidence was she had the biggest cleavage in the Marvel Universe. There were a lot of covers that played around with the fourth wall by having her, or the writer via speech bubble comment on her gratuitous nudity.

She's just kind of a silly character in many ways, and I like her that way. It's the same reason I like Hercules - they're both characters writers feel they can goof around with and not treat as needing a super serious story.

I'm amalgamating several different runs there, but most of her stuff is good. Some of it is from the 90's from what I recall. Slott's run starts out great and then just gets kind of melodramatic and serious and ends poo poo. There's some alternate universe stuff invoked to explain her sleeping with The Juggernaut if I recall. I remember zoning out about there, despite buying and reading it for a while more. His run had great art at the start too if I recall, especially the covers. And that went to pot too.

I think she became a bounty hunter or something in tandem with another female meta after that. I should catch up on her at some point

Nah, I'm pretty sure in the conversation the team had with Reyes before she got shot, she was asking them to turn in Castle and Foggy was like, "And violate privilege!?"

Or something like that.

She wanted them to violate privilege by giving her all the files they had on Frank, which actually would be a big no no without a subpoena. Which is going to be a tough sell even if their client is the Punisher. Turning in Frank wasn't part of that particular portion of the conversation.

The Gotto stuff was about walking the tightrope of turning him over for witness protection while both getting a good deal and making sure he didn't just get hosed over by the DA simply arresting him without them being present. The DA went and hosed them and their client over anyway.

odiv posted:

That was actually so very close to being accurate. Baliffs can work at either the jail or the court house and could conceivably be present as an escort for the inmate. Of course people on trial are held in jails while people convicted of multiple murders are held in prisons. Much closer than most of the Lawyer stuff.

That's it, Gyges, I'm gonna need your badge and your gun.

(Now I have to rewatch the scene because I swear she wanted them to help catching him, but on reflection maybe it was by turning over the files and that's what he objected to.)

So I just finished both seasons, and... overall, it's a great show with awesome acting and incredible attention to detail. But, in the last half of this season, the writing slid down the toilet.

  • So the Hand is digging a big hole. Why? And where are they sending all the dirt? According to my 10 second mental math, a hole that big 40 stories deep would fill roughly 873 billion freight cars. Not to mention the labor involved.

  • So the ninjas can hide their heartbeats. Who cares? DD can tell that there's a flight of stairs in front of him even though the stairs have no heartbeat.

  • So Electra is Black Sky. What about the kid from the first season, whom Stick tracked down and killed? Why didn't Stick kill Elly as a child? What's with the people the Hand is draining blood from?

  • So Nobu tells Electra that the Hand lives and dies for her. Why doesn't Electra tell Nobu to commit seppuku on the spot? Problem solved.

  • So, at the top of the stairwell, Electra tells Matt she wants him to run off to Europe, and Matt says "hey sure why not." Of course we all realize that Electra is going to be killed. Any writer who isn't huffing glue should see that.

They're in the Fox comic universe I'd imagine, and not counted as part of the Marvel one.

Maybe this version of NYC has higher supply/lower demand because the aliens blew up so many buildings.

I'm swiftly moving toward a solution which pleases nobody! YEAGGH!
What's weird is in the comics Matt and Foggy are usually written as really successful lawyers that aren't struggling for cash, and Matt has like a whole townhouse with his own ninja workout gym. It sort of feels like for TV they decided to add this pro-bono-no-money aspect, but didn't think it through that it would mean Matt should have 3 roommates and be commuting from New Jersey.

Or I guess we can just roll with the "aliens made it the 80s again" conceit.

That most realistic superhero NYC apartment is still the one in Spider-Man 2.

I guess one thing I didn't like is that Foggy and Karen had way more chemistry than Matt and Karen. That romance felt very shoehorned in season 2.
