EightAce Collective: did you remove the "proof" you previously posted, or is it still online? Can you please answer that much at least?

Anything sufficiently damning released to the public would help to turn the tide against CIG. If Chris and Sandi are as terrible people as we have been led to believe, then they deserve to fail.

Derek may post things like "They're hosed. The End.", but his tendency towards incredibly bombastic rhetoric only seems to have become more exaggerated over time. He is undoubtedly invested in the outcome, as he has made it his personal crusade. As such, he may fail to take into account mitigating actions which CIG may be enacting to prevent, or at least delay, their extinction. At this point, he can't change his story with any possibility of saving face.

That's why I'm appealing to you EightAce. If you have proof, even if you posted it in an alcoholic stupor, please leave it online to be found and promulgated. This is the huge story of the crowd-funded game that was too big to fail.

Play your part in bringing it to light.

I think she might be doing it like out of a sitcom way. As in like they want backers to be going "Haha, look at those wacky hijinks!" sort of way.

I don't know what ELE is but if it's as significant as Derek says it must have caught them by surprise as LA, Austin, F42 UK & F42 Germany have all hired people very recently.

They have no 2.0 to launch this year, 6 months till Citizen Con, the only thing on the horizon are in-game shops and a flyable $300 fuel tanker for a game without fuel mechanics. Funding is going to tank and they have very few gimmicks left to use.

I wouldn't mind seeing another Citizen Con event, the last one was hilarious.

Sq42 will be a bunch of badly animated and scripted cutscenes with some lovely dogfights and janky fps in copy pasted environments. SC will have a few more copy pasted systems and stations than it does currently with the same lovely dogfights and fps, you will earn credits from generic, shoot or fetch 10 bear asses missions but it will take you months of grinding to buy anything larger than a single seat fighter, CIG will continue to sell ships for cash. It will go out not with a bang but with a whimper.

That is my prediction.

That loving thread. Has B'Tak ever played a game in his life? He's scared (shocker, I know) that an attacking force will use their scanners to discover how many people are on his ship, then send a tactically appropriate force that will be able to overwhelm him and he will feel grief.

In what loving world would that ever happen in a game? Let's assume, like he does, that this game exists. If you're going to board a vessel, you're going to send in everything you have, every loving time, no matter how many people are defending. This is a game - that is how gamers behave. There isn't going to be a thoughtful strategic approach like these people have been reading about in sci-fi novels, or watching on TV shows. It's gonna be BOOM BLAST SHOOT KILL STEAL every loving time - zerg fury all day every day. That's how this poo poo works, and that's how this poo poo will always work.

The replies are almost as good as his original post. All of these people must have done some kind of mind-meld at some point, because they're all picturing the same contrived situation that does not exist in any form, in game or in documentation. But they're already spitballing about how it's all gonna play out, and they're trying to stay one step ahead of it.

It reminds me of a coworker of mine who drove out into the Nevada desert on vacation. She brought guns and all kinds of weird poo poo, and silver, because she wanted to be ready in case of an EMP. (I am not making this up.) She had every doomsday cult scenario all played out in her head. I asked, since she was driving into the desert, if she had also thought to pack water. She hadn't.

Thing I find confusing at the moment is, it's clear from the recent interviews with Erin, and other poor souls who are trying to make this thing actually happen, that there is a recognition amongst the higher ups of the massive engineering challenges they're trying to surmount, and of the problems so far (re-re-designing everything, star marine disaster etc.) that they have had to correct/move past. They are still rapidly expanding (4 new people at Frankfurt in the past week etc.)
But how the gently caress are they going to sustain the finances? Their operation as a whole is 300 - 400 people, they already splurged massively on offices, shoots and reshoots, probably tens of thousands of wasted man-hours in the first couple of years alone.
They are obviously banking a lot on SQ42 episode 1, so I guess they somehow have enough to see them through this year - but that very possibility surely means they have brought in outside investors? I know there was Bootcha and presumably others, so in reality do we think they've raised considerably more than $110m?

e: I guess the conclusion is, they have to get SQ42 out, and it has to sell, or they're really really hosed.

Derek has said all investors they approached have rejected them. Take that with the regular salt required for a Derek post.

TBH that isn't a huge leap of logic. There's really not much hope for any investor to get a return out of any investment into CIG, considering they have a large portion of their player base that has already paid for the game and those funds have been already used up in development.

I would assume that anyone seriously contemplating investing in this shitshow isn't going to be dropping millions of dollars based on what the marketing department shows them. "Show me what you're working on. Show me what you're finished." They're not gonna be happy with procedural planet trailers, and all that wacky front-facing horseshit CIG serves their backers. They're gonna want to see the game engine in its current state, and I believe :pgabz: has summed up that experience nicely.
