All the Japanese horror posted made me remember a horror webcomic I have in my bookmarks so I opened it to see if it was still scary. It's okay if you can't read Japanese e: Korean, sorry!, the drawings are explanatory.

I think Kazuo Umezu belongs on the top of the "crazy mangaka" list. Fourteen is seriously the most mesmerizingly, painfully weird thing I've read. It's like a fever dream that never ends, just gets worse and worse.

His other stuff seems to be equally hosed up. The naive-art quality of his work is also super unsettling.

Oh, and this lovely scene is from the first chapter of a children's manga he did in the 70s.

e: I see his house was mentioned earlier.

Holy poo poo this guy goes from bad into so-bad-it's-good caagory. He's like a manga Fletcher Hanks in his amateurly bad honesty.

I mean, look at this:

The overly intense eyes, the hysterical dialogue, the giant chunky bodies on the adults, the overuse of copying the same character from he same direction, the general level of screaming anxiety that wavers between funny and uncomfortable...

Hanks has been reborn, guys.

Absolutely nothing makes sense. Its an utterly bizarre story, you can understand what is supposed to be going on but the execution is just absurd. I'm amazed by how stupid and weird it is.

Oh, man! I've not seen that in ages. It's Edward Kienholz's 'The State Hospital', if anyone's interested. It's also in 'The Shock of the New' by Robert Hughes; my mother had that book, and I used to flip through it as a kid because reasons (naked people) and that one would always both weird me out and fascinate me. The work is directly inspired by Keinholz's experiences working in a state mental hospital in Kansas in the forties. There's actually more to it; the work itself is enclosed in a large metal box:

The idea is that you view it through that grille in the door; you can't actually go inside. It's set up to stink of disinfectant, and the heads—which are made of fishbowls—had two live black fish in each one. You can read more about it here: http://www.cat-sidh.net/Writing/Kienholz.html

He wasn't a performance artist, but I get your point.

ETA: Another work of his involved a live parakeet in a cage, and the implication is that he took some pains to ensure that it was kept healthy.

I can't remember the proper name for it, but it's the four different ways people can shape their tongues. Apparently it's not just a learned skill, but genetics play a major part in whether you can do them at all.

I can do 1, 3 and 4, but never managed 2.

EDIT - google tells me that's actually false. A "Genetic oversimplification" and that the ability to shape the tongue may have more to do with developmental quirks (how you grew in the womb) than your genes.

Now, first of all, I'm a big skeptic, but that doesn't deter me from indulging in spooky stories and the paranormal.

So I just moved in to a new apartment and this is the view from my room.

This has been a place where every teen, "paranormal investigator", or drunk college kid, has snuck in there at some point and it's hella spooky.

Last night my roomates' friend was here and she says that spirits from there make their way over to our house sometimes. We also have a few resident spirits here. So far I haven't seen anything, but then again, I'm a skeptic.

As far as other creepy poo poo in my apartment. Apparently the guy living here before us was straight up crazy. This is my closet.

Looks a little weird huh? Those are all staples. Why all those staples?

Well, at one point he had lottery tickets stuck to all of those, now there's just this lone one left. My roommate, who had this room before me, had to take them all down.

So, yeah, my apartment is weird
