But People have fears that beasts do not. Questions, too.

Illarin shook the world again, this time revealing spires of Glass in Mirror Lake. They reverberated in tune with the Silvurtle’s Song, even more loudly when one of the People dared to touch one directly.

Then Illarin spoke to them, and they were shocked to hear the voice of another God - less musical, but no less Divine! He guided them to sing to the Glass, allowing their Song to be amplified to great heights. In time, the Silvurtles learned how best to use their new knowledge - it worked best in Mirror Lake, but even fragments of Glass from the area could amplify their volume. Many of the People took to carrying around small shards for luck.

(The Silvurtle gain a Place of Power - Glass Spires on Mirror Lake. They also gain Rudimentary Glass Instruments, but have not learned how to create them themselves)

-O-

Ashar Ado did not abandon its People, either. Even as Illarin spoke to them, it filled their minds with knowledge of the power of the Silver Song. Working together, the Silvurtle learned that they could touch the world as their God touched it, and they delighted in their power and glorified their God. Their songs shook the night with their depth and intensity, and all were pleased.

Ashar Ado watched and listened. The Silver Song lay within all of them, but not all excelled. Not all were equally talented, and the God watched them struggle to keep up with the rest. Others excelled, far beyond the average singer, able to work great magic. None spoke of this, but it was plain in their thoughts - Should the best be raised up and the worst cast down? Or should we stay as a community of equals, where all strive to sing to the same quality?

(The Silvurtle gain the Silver Song - Basic Silver Magic. Silver Magic has these qualities:

Anything that could be reasonably (or unreasonably) spun to fall under those aspects is fair game. You do not need to tell them to use it - they know how, and they use it in their daily life - but if you want to do something specific, you can tell them to. This Magic is amplified by Instruments - and especially by the Glass Spires.)

Catmandu laughed at their request - the very idea of sacrifice was abhorent and ridiculous to her, especially given their state. But she had an idea of how she could spin their request into a lesson! She bid them to offer her Milk - but only when they drank it! The Verre turned this over in their minds as they played. When they grew exhausted, they wandered over to a nearby lake of Milk and took a tentative sip. It was fantastic! They took another and another, splashing eachother in joy - but made absolutely certain to leave a hollowed out tray of Marblemoss full of Milk when they left.

They returned to the lake many times, each time making certain to drink the nutritious, healthy Milk each time they came before leaving offerings out. For her part, Catmandu made certain to consume the proferred offering, strengthening their faith in her. The Milk certainly seemed to be treating the Verre kindly, in any cause!

Something else - the Verre ran from the lake of Milk one day, laughing and screaming in mingled fear and curiosity.
“Great Goddess, we saw something in the lake of Milk! It burst out of the water, roaring, then leapt clear out into the lake of whey! What should we do if we see it again!?”

(Milk is very Healthy! The Verre gain Endurance and Toughness (which mitigates but doesn’t remove their Fragility. They also encountered something strange! They also gained a Ritual - Leaving Milk Out!

Amyhdal pondered how best to corral his still-foolish flock, but the answer presented itself in the form of the disasters that had rocked Somewhere and reshaped its face. The broken forest of Glass would be a great lesson - nothing focuses the mind and purpose of a People more strongly than an enemy.

As their God spoke to Deesix and his Seven, their eyes grew wider as they heard talk of the Demon of Water, Illarin. The presence of other Gods had not even occured to them, and Deesix was filled with a great revulsion as Amyhdahl spoke of how they fractured the land. He implored his God to aid them, to save the forest. Instead, Amydahl raised both bony limbs and did… something… to one of them, filling the air with the sound of a thousand tinkling bells.

When they could bear to look, they saw their God offering them gifts. Deesix took both and turned them over in his hands, feeling their divine perfection. Before he could thank his God, Amydahl continued. He guided Deesix through the shaping of Glass, and Deesix taught his Seven. He filled their minds with thoughts of markets and trade, and they began to see the shape of the world.

Deesix and his people began to work Glass - though none could approach the skill of their King, much less their God. But it was enough, for now.

(The Fortugnat gain a Group - the Seven - who work under Deesix. The Fortugnat have learned Basic Glassworking - Glass is Sharp but Fragile, making it better suited for some things than others, but it’s also very Pretty! Deesix is a Master, the Seven are Apprentices, and everyone else has at least some minor faculty at it. They also gain Basic Economic Knowledge.

They have also gained an enemy - the Demon of Water, Illarin - who they hate and fear.)

One day, Illarin spoke to the Aqueau, telling them to seek out the lakes Milk and whey and experiment. The Aqueau, unused to such a direct hand from their God, went out with haste to see the world!

The lake of whey was interesting - combining aspects of Milk and Water, it was a good deal more viscous then their home lakes, and it tasted unusual. However, soft curds of cheese floated in its turbid vastness, and the Aqueau enjoyed them immensely! They began to make pilgrimages to the lake of whey to gather it periodically, and greatly enjoyed the treat that their God had granted them.

The lake of Milk was quite different - with barely any Water at all, the Aqueau found themselves moving through it with great difficulty. They found that the soft cheese could be made on purpose, with trial and error and Milk and Water - but given the difficulty, the Aqueau greatly preferred harvesting it from the lake of whey instead!

(The Aqueau went exploring by themselves and gained some Independence. In exploring the lake of whey, they found that they Like Cheese (I know Milk + Water != Cheese but that’s how it works here!) and that they can survive in whey, though currently it’s not comfortable to do so. In exploring the lake of Milk, they learned Basic Cheesemaking - but currently do NOT like swimming in Milk. They CAN, but they don’t gain full mobility bonuses in it and they find it unpleasant!)

Sullo spoke to the Laitache directly, filling their minds with Godly purpose - Balance. Balance was the key between Light and Heavy, work and play, gain for self and for the community. Sullo spoke the words and the Laitache knew them to be true and wise. They would endeavour to follow them in their God’s name.

Sullo cast out its Godly force into their minds, full of intent - and felt a shattering within, great pieces of its essence losing coherence. Immediately, Wisps pressed against the cracks - forcing the pieces apart, forcing them together - and in anguish Sullo perceived the blessed balance between the push and pull. But it didn’t make a difference, in the end - a great portion of Sullo fell away, striking Somewhere invisibly and vanishing into foam. For a time, Sullo saw nothing at all.

When awareness returned, the Laitache had changed. They had followed the orders of their god, and sought out beasts to carry their burdens. Sullo felt a discordant twisting in its essence as it took in the scene.

They Laitache were one no longer. Heavy and Light, in Balance - but it was wrong! They had learned the wrong lesson - but they had learned it well.

(SULLO LOSES 2 HP! The Laitache have gained Castes! The Heavy Caste does slow, plodding physical labour, while the Light rule over them with agile minds and ponder matters of philosophy. The Heavy have regressed to little more than beasts - but they strain under the yoke of their oppressors)

Sullo, God of Weight
1/3 HP

While certainly not fully happy with the outcome of his actions, Sullo gives a divine nod to the Wisps, for respecting his wish for Balance, by sending him equal amounts of positive and negative influence.

The Laitache's new cast system was not what Sullo wanted, but it its on twisted way, it was a Balance, which would have to do. Now the Laitache needed more help than ever. Were they to maintain the new Balance of their society, they would need a place to call home. The Silvurtles had their spires, The Aqueau had their lakes and rivers. The Fortugnat had their glass forests. The Laitache were still wanderers.

With so many of the other peoples living in the south and east, the Laitache would be best served by going northwest. He would remove much of the Weight from the land between the island and the mainland, raising it up from under the Water and creating a massive arching bridge for the Laitache to cross and claim the island as their own, away from the others. Hopefully there they could prosper.

Illarin, God of Flowing Water

3 HP

Illarin tosses a sly smile in the direction of Amyhdahl as the God of Broken Promises informs his people of the demon Illarin, he would come back to that situation shortly, but for now Illarin attends to more important matters.

The Aqueau had done as he had asked and Illarin would give them what he had promised. For the first time in the age Illarin deigns to manifest physically in Somewhere, appearing before the Aqueau that have done as he bid ""You have done well and thus I grant you the boon I have promised. Among your people you must pick the most worthy of the Aqueau, I care not how. The chosen member of your race will be summoned in the near future and I will imbue them with a gift to the benefit of all the Aqueau."

Illarin's avatar settles down onto his knees resting comfortably on the surface of the lake as though it were solid ground before he continues "The second part of your boon will be a gift of knowledge. My fellow gods and I will not be here forever, already several of us have begun to fade away to make room for a new generation of Godlings, we are but the first of many who will visit these lands and I trust that you will show due deference to these new Gods when they arrive, but always keep the founders in your thoughts." A heavy burden of knowledge has been lain at the feet of the Aqueau, but as their confusion begins to set in their god has already vanished off into the ether leaving them with more questions than answers.

His promise fulfilled to the Aqueau, Illarin turns his attention back to the Fortugnat, a form much larger than he had shown to the Aqueau arose from the sea one morning, towering over the remaining glass forests a booming voice echoing out through the fragile trees "You were warned creatures of the Fortugnat, but you did not heed this warning well enough." Giant fists dig into the land and a stream of brackish water flows down from Illiran's face and across the masses of the Fortugnat people, evaporating as it makes contact with them "Know that Illarin curses you this day and that from this point forth the divine element of Water will hold but death for you!"

As his curse is uttered to completion the body of the massive avatar Illiran had created bursts into a heavy fog which blanketed the land for many a week afterward.

The Fortugnat were promised a villain and here he is

Cursing the Fortugnat, water will hold only death for them: 19

The Aqueau have earned Illarin's boon, they can elect a member of their race whom Illarin will imbue with a divine spark in round 4.

Amyhdahl, God of Broken Promises
HP - 2

When Illarin appeared before the Fortugnats to lay upon them his curse, Amyhdahl did not respond. Why would he? The demon of water revealing himself to his chosen people in order to be openly hostile to them did nothing more than further feed his narrative that Illarin was a creature of malice. Having an enemy to unite against could only help to strengthen his people. That his enemy was an actual enemy instead of just a strawman was the cherry on top of his lie sundae.

---

Illarin's curse completed, the god of broken promises turned his attention to Deesix and the Seven for yet another lesson. "Today you have seen the face of your enemy. Frightening as he may be, you can resist -- and eventually overthrow -- him and the people he leads".

His worshipers gave him a questioning look. "Remember my lessons on trade? Near the lake of whey live the Silvurtles. Recently their god constructed them a great musical instrument. It is also where the followers of Illarin go to make cheese. If you were to create a settlement there, a fortress of sorts, you would have both a trading outpost, and a defensible place against the demon of water's troops. Go there, and build yourself the best fortress you can".

King Deesix and his Seven ordered the Fortugnats to start building. It was a slow, laborious process. Too slow for Amyhdahl, who wondered if he could speed it up by using his divine power. He sought himself a nice, even patch of diceland and focused his powers. With a bit of luck, he could build a few strong walls for his followers to further build on.

He unleashed his divine power, but made a crucial mistake. This task, it was simply too much. He overextended his capabilities and could feel his Essence get torned asunder. All too soon he became aware of his own mortality, and that this would be his last Blessing on the Fortugnat people...

(Assist Fortugnats in the construction of a fortess, 1d20=1, http://orokos.com/roll/390459)

I wonder what the opposite of building a fortress is. Blowing a big hole in the ground? Forcing the Fortugnats into a nomadic lifestyle?

Anyway, it looks like someone else gets to take a turn behind the wheel.

Catmandu, Goddess of Cattes
3/3 HP

"What should we do if we see it again!?"

She weighed the words heavily. Her children had not yet encountered many of the other races that existed in Somewhere, and she was worried that they might not be ready for contact. Would they be aggressive, or would they possess similar souls to her chosen people? If it was the former, then trying to get them to play together might end in disaster - they could misinterpret the attempt to play as a hostile action. However, if they were similar in temperament, then the Verre would gain a new friend and maybe even have the opportunity to learn more!

But how could they know how this strange thing would react to them without trying?

Catmandu had felt the rumblings throughout the land. Some of her fellow gods were not getting along well, to say the least. Who knows what might happen if she accidentally incensed the wrong people, the wrong god? She could not take that risk before she felt she imbued enough catte-ness in her people that they would remember her within their souls long after she departed. Her mortality, despite her godhood, began to affect her judgment to some extent.

She thought to herself "What would a catte do when faced with something strange?"

Therein lay her answer.

"My children," she mewed "you should watch this strange creature from afar and hide in the natural cover of the land. Watch it and see if it enjoys play like you do, or if it makes beautiful noises. Should it enjoy these things, then approach it and try to engage it in play. If it does not seem to love these things as you do, then be content to observe and keep your distance."

Once more did the cycle of generations come and go, once more did the Silvurtle People call upon their deity.
"Oh, Great God!" they spake. "Should the best be raised up and the worst cast down? Or should we stay as a community of equals, where all strive to sing to the same quality?"

And Lo here the People filled with certainty. What fools they had been! How shameful their display! For their question showed all too readily the weakness of the mortal mind.
As children are they to compete in what one can and one can not, as children are they to judge stagnation as fair and just.

"NO. Came the booming certainty inside them. "If ye raise the clearest voice and cast low all others, then as glass you shall become; Fragile, rare.
If you lower all amongst you to the least; as dice you shall become: Common, equalized. Whilst both states might bring comfort; neither shall bring joy.

Heed Thy God, Silvurtle Peoples: It is not that one amongst you is greater, for indeed inside of all burns the same passion. Instead it is that you have yet to find the greatness within. "

At once the Silvurtle People became intristincly aware of a new song, one they could not help but sing. And as they sung it, they became aware of a new beauty, that of discordance.
Where before the least of voices had rung out false and destroyed the harmony, here the harmony itself was abhorent, and within all the confusion and chaos came something greater and with it, as always, Ashar Ado: The Joy of Creation.

♬ Complacency brings stagntion.♬
So far you have but explored one Strophe of the Symphony, where untold infinity lay before thee.
If thou Stagnates, soon Joy will turn to Boredom

♬ Experimentation begets Experience.♬
If you cease exploring the possible, cease challenging the impossible than so too must sensations cease. How then, can there be Joy?

♬ Thus comes clear the Meaning of Life.♬
Each and all of you must strive to find the path to Joy through the ceaseless seeking of sensation; Do unto others and have them do unto you until you find that which makes you excell.
Perfect yourselves, my Silvurtle Peoples and become Sensates in Truth.

Tasking the Silvurtle Peoples to become Sensates, a People striving to find their own Perfection that all might experience the Utmost Joy. The Greatest Sin of the Sensate is Stagnation whilst the Highest Virtue is Experimentation.
Since this is not Divine Action, it is neither Divine Compulsion, merely the answer to their prayer. The Silvurtles are free to take another path if they so desire.

---

Terrestial Affairs in order, the Deity which might be thought about as the moment when you open your eyes upon waking once more spread its awareness about the land.
All over Somewhere where peoples, some guarded jealously by others Gods and some shared freely or, it noticed, cursed.
So much variation presented itself, but still it was not enough. Always more, was the hunger of Joy, always better.

The Aqueauns then. The first People to venture out of their homelands unbidden, creatures whose curiosity would one day lead them to greatness, of this Ashar Ado was sure.
But they suffered in Whey whilst they languished in Water; content to do what they had always done. The Presence pondered for a moment, how to best affect its Change upon the world.

Infecting the Whey: 1d20 = 2

Ashar Ado descended upon the Whey, immersing itself fully in its essence. Too late did it realize that Gods Too May Drown, and it struggled to find release; leaving pieces of itself behind as it did so.
It had intended to induce in the Whey a powerful mutagen, that would visit profound dimorphism upon those that encountered it, but with the stress of mortality it had no idea what it really left behind.
Fleeing into the air, Ashar Ado laughed like an earthquake, rumbling the skies and causing storms hitherto unseen.

The Thrill of avoiding Near Death. Ir ruminated on this, a new thing: and thus one to be embraced.

Trying to turn Aqueaun Whey into X-Whey, a powerful mutagen! But not doing terribly well it would seem, unless Kind Wisps aided this effort for a More Interesting Future.
