did you invite them to consider their own history of colonialism and racial warfare and the ways in which racism is almost a foundational characteristic of the modern european state, and whereas in the US it's at least brought into the open and challenged throughout much of europe if it's considered at all it's just hand waved away as "culture" or "satire"?
