The UADA Album\EP is out now and really good. I had been waiting for it since someone posted Black Autumn, White Spring here.

Speaking of both Deathspell Omega and UADA, Imperial Triumphant has an amazing new EP out today. They're associated with Pyrrhon and some others as sort of a post-DsO "weird" BM kind of band, and they're touring with UADA right now. Good poo poo, my favorite release of the year so far. Their last LP, Abyssal Gods, was awesome too.

Really enjoying the new Sun Worship album. It's nothing too new if you're into bands like Wolves in the Throne Room and Panopticon, but it's fun as hell and never really slows down.

Has anyone seen Behemoth on this current tour? I'm going to the show in SF Friday night, haven't seen them live in about 8 years and I'm really looking forward to hearing The Satanist played live.

Saw them last week, completely owned. I enjoyed seeing Myrkur live too.

Can anyone recommend something that strikes a middleground between Darkspace and stuff like Mesarthim and Violet Cold? I love the raw and oppressive sound of Darkspace but I also like the more uplifting chord progressions the latter bands bring to the table. Spectral Lore is probably the closest band I think has this kind of sound.

Been diving back into some Deathspell Omega recently, they really have some sweet stuff although a lot of people seem to hate them nowadays. When Si Monumentum came out, there was not a single dissident about them as far as I remember. Haven't payed attention to BM since back then, any good DsO-like bands?

Anyone recommend similar stuff? Like, anything with that "almost-doom-but-not-quite" feel.

I think that band is more gimmick than anything else, but you might want to check out the Ruins of Beverast.

I'm partial to Rain Upon the Impure, but they're all good. If you like this, you should check out his previous band Nagelfar (not Naglfar - they're loving awful), especially Hünengrab im Herbst. It's really something special.

I finally got around and listened to the new Moonsorrow record, it's pretty good. It didn't grab me as much as their other records but I think I have to give it a few more listens. Man they love that mouth harp thing.

Edit - Apparently its called a Jew's harp for some reason which is ironic since they all pagan and poo poo.

Those are the best two (assuming that you mean Blikk av Kald/Hladavzor/whatever by the vortex one, there's a couple Branikald albums you could describe that way). Kveldulv and Av Vinterkald are also okay.

That stuff is all so similar that if you like one you'll probably like them all, the main one to avoid is the 2001 album where they're trying to be an RAC band.

Saw Myrkur + Deafheaven yesterday. Myrkur was alright, somewhat quiet and boring at times. Deafheaven rocked as usual, but New Bermuda is just so much different live than I expected. Felt more like a chilled out post-rock trip with breakdowns than black metal. Still great though.

e: Violet Cold is kinda weird for me too. I really like it when I listen to it, then forget about it for months :v:

Saw them yesterday with High Tension. They were both really frickin' good but McCoy had his guitar turned way down, made it quite hard to hear those beautiful soaring melodies he can put out.
It's funny how everyone in the band plays really rigid except for Clarke who is just a loving spectacle to watch. I saw them in this tiny dingy bar in Brisbane with a pretty small crowd but it didn't stop him from going loving nuts.
