Not interviews per se but look up his Pitchfork Over/Under and his critique of NBA fashion.

Dude's a top-10 interview out of everyone, not just music. Just youtube random vince staples interviews and they're all pure comedy. Dude's got a great comedic tone and is natural as heck with his replies. I've been watching random videos of his the last couple days and there's gems in all of them.

Also, finally got around to checking out a couple albums I mentioned previously. Mr. Lif dropped a project, and it was his first solo stuff in forever. It's...not bad. The production is kinda mellow and at times reminds me of something I would've expected early Lupe to be rapping over. Which is ok, but I don't think it suits his strengths at all. On top of which, his content lacks the bite it had before. Some of that is to be expected of course, but without that it's a lot of vaguely posi-struggle rap stuff. Dudes who like J-Cole would probably be down with this (which I don't mean as the insult it sounds like, it's just kinda music that's without any huge flaws, but doesn't overly make me wanna listen). I'll have to listen a bit more to see if my opinion changes but as of now it's just not very exciting, outside of having Lif back rapping. I still think it's worth a listen even given that because as I mentioned, I may just be too hard/comparing too much against his early work.

Also finally gave another old timer a listen, J-Zone. Now, he's a dude I always thought should've been way more famous than he is (and I still think had he came out maybe 3-4 years later he might've been had things broke a little different). For those who don't know, J-Zone was an underground dude from the early 2000's who rapped and produced. He made a few albums but was still decidedly underground, so he retired and got a regular job. During his retirement he did some writing for various websites and also put out a very funny, very bitter book about his music experiences. But, like every rap dude (for the longest time he was the only example I could think of for a rap dude who said they'd retired and actually did retire) he came back with an album a couple years ago and decided to get back into music cause it's what he liked. And it was a pretty good album-it had a lot of the humor he's always shown, excellent production (although he's fallen in love a bit much with his own drumming; to be fair stricter sample enforcement has done a number on his production style so it's understandable) and was pretty cool. Now, the reason all of that is relevant is because his new album almost seems like it would've been his comeback because it's got the humor, but it's also kinda seriously bitter. Not bitter like Cage or some other dude who does depressing-rear end poo poo, but more like your friend who keeps cracking the same lame jokes about a company that didn't hire them-it's understandable, and funny at first, but you don't necessarily wanna keep hearing that poo poo. Only in this case, the "company" is rap and the music industry. It's all done mostly from a humor perspective, but when you have an album that half of it is saying how much you hate rap, rap sucks, dudes should quit rap, etc etc it can get a bit tiring. Which is a shame cause the production on this I think is a step up from his last album, and seriously rivals the stuff he did during his original run, and he's still got a lot of wit and whatnot.

So there's a decent amount of words about some oldtimer rappers.

Hah, I knew J-Zone sounded familiar, he did some stuff with Demigodz.

Still does, looks like:

and, uh, yeah he does like his drums

EDIT: goddamn I forgot how much I like Celph Titled's ridiculous lines from his older poo poo like this track with J-Zone:

Yeah him and Celph did an album together as Boss-hog Barbarians. The quality is entirely dependent on how much you can stand Celph Titled-I like him in small doses (which is why he really shined on the early Demigodz stuff) but too much and his pure punchline flow gets a little dull to me.

And about the drum thing-I give dude lots of respect for learning how to play (apparently all self-taught) at like 35, but he's replaced a lot of the sample elements in his tracks with drumlines. But I think it works better on his most recently album than his last one, just because his other production's switched a bit to incorporate them better.

Yeah. I think this has come up before, but I love Celph Titled when he's doing like 1 verse per track with other rappers. Not so much on his solo stuff, with a few exceptions (meaning exceptional tracks).

Nobody comes up with ridiculous punchlines like Celph. He's the only rapper that I will sometimes rewind a track 10-15 seconds just to hear a punchline again because it's so funny.

That song gets me so hype. I'm definitely enjoying the current crop of Internet rappers. It's like the generation after Lil B//Odd Future//Raider Klan. Not to mention where those acts are nowadays, relatively. gently caress yeah.

I think he's been on all his albums. Dude's still rapping up a storm too. I harp on it, but had all the Old Maid Ent. dudes just started a couple years later, they could've at least had the career dudes like Royce and all the other Slaughterhouse rejects had. 190 still plays in my head whenever i'm drinking.
