I'm not giving KnK a free pass, though. Both cases are completely different. Lio's behaviour is the central focus of that film. He is a crazy lion guy, he wants to eat people. That's his deal. Caster's big deal are betrayals. The sexual element is very specifically only in that one scene. Also, I feel like the anime should stand on its own. I don't want to play the weird porn game. It's not like HF is completely incomprehensible if you didn't read Fate and UBW first, it just loses a lot of its punch.

Tbf you could pretty easily assume Sakura's just there if UBW is your only exposure to the series. There isn't much in the way of stuff alluding to her home life aside from Shinji being a huge dick. Kotomine is a bit more of a problem, but even he still shows up long enough to get killed.

Caster liz is free, which makes them broke it with two free caster. They are also very stinky with releasing lancer for some reason. Probably because there are so many saber and keeping archer superiority or something. So the next one probably will be berserker. Edit: iris is also a special case in that they didn't announce about her like they do with other free servant, so this could be a special exception.
