I'll probably be getting a burger with either goat cheese or gouda and a fried egg in roughly 13 hours for a ~trip report~

Honestly makes it taste too much like breakfast for me. If I'm doing brinner I prefer to have it based around that as opposed to just introducing it into a lunch/dinner standard, but I feel like I might be the minority

I told you you'd pay!
Best burger I ever had with an egg on it also had hash browns, sour cream, cheese, and bacon on it on an onion roll. Added ketchup and devoured like a heathen.

I think Lard Goat was talking about the Italian beef sandwich someone asked about adding cheese to, not the poutine. The implication being whether cheese is acceptable on pulled pork has nothing to do with whether it works on an Italian beef.

Man, now I want a combo. And some pulled pork.

Some people are, like, offended by the idea of egg on a burger or pizza. It's just another bonus protein like bacon or pizza toppings. I'd be tempted to say "no burger rules" but I've read the rest of this thread.

I'm 110% down on fried egg on a burger, but it has to be the same way I have my eggs normally. Which is to say, very over hard, almost burnt, with a broken yolk.

Runny eggs are my own personal AFP.

He was responding directly to P. Prince's photo of pulled pork and claiming it wasn't pulled pork so that's be a really weird coincidence

Yeah, he could have made it clearer, but it being a poorly written post makes more sense to me, especially since he'd said something previously about cheese not working on the beef. Not really a coincidence, since the cheese on the pulled pork came up in the discussion of the cheese on beef. I don't think he meant the pulled pork itself was beef. If he did, he's obviously super wrong.

It's about balance. Burger, a cheese with some heft to it, runny egg, arugula.

I think putting cheese on an Italian beef might make it some kind of cheese steak sandwich? The taxonomy gets vague. I had also never considered the possibility of cheese on an Italian beef, so there is also that.

See part of the fun (for me) of a breakfast with meat and fried eggs is swirling the meat in the leaked egg yolk on the plate. Works lovely with ham...

Also (depending on cheese), I don't even want to think about how messy and hard to ear that would be. Good italians are bad enough as it is.

I would say it's more of a gravy bread with meat and veggies, as a french dip usually isn't quite so soaked.

It's basically a burg with mayo that will fall out and make a mess instead of coat everything like a sauce.

Portillo's in Chicago has the Beef n Cheddar Croissant which is Italian beef with cheese inside a croissant so it's definitely fair game to experiment with. The sandwich in question is devestatingly delicious and presumably if eaten with one of their milkshakes will permanently bind your soul to the Midwest.
