Real computing stuff. Spam Nation by Brian Krebs. A book about Russian spammers, it's pretty good. And the first page of Chapter 2 should look eerily familiar to Shim. my Shim GET A LAWYER post in the get help thread Kingpin by Kevin Poulsen. A book about a really smart Computer dude named Max "Vision" with GiP levels of impulse control who hosed up his life over and over and over and over again. Max Vision eventually went full credit card scammer kingpin. The book really gets into Vision's mindset and is really hilarious at points. Kingpin should be read along with DarkMarket by Misha Glenny, it's basically a companion piece about the other side of the global credit card scammer network. Added Bonus book: The author of Kingpin is a convicted telecommunications hacker, funny how that fact isn't mentioned anywhere in Kingpin. The book about Kevin Poulsen's hacking exploits is called The Watchman: The Twisted Life and Crimes of Serial Hacker Kevin Poulsen by Jonathan Littman. Littman also wrote a book about Kevin Mitnick, however I hate giving Mitnick any attention beyond: Mitnick was vicious & was/is a master social engineer. ty for not including android in that list in other news i bought a pie 3 this week and been futzing around with the idea of using it for MAME and 8 through 32 bit, but im not really happy with the performance. also i really want to have dreamcast games on my arcade cabinet, and it'd be nice to have killer instinct on there now that it's on windows 10. im going to end up building a PC anyways (need it for lightgun games) so i'll end up using the pi for something else, maybe for back LED lighting that's sound activated for the cabinet

Back in '98 some OU students hacked the Feeb servers. I got to know one of them a few years later, like in '05, a Pakistani national as it turned out whose student greencard had expired and he didn't bother to try to renew it (he was no longer a student) There was a lot of national paranoia re: Asians, muslims, etc. around then. We were going back and forth about some poo poo like "Are AV programs even worth a poo poo" because he thought no, and didn't use one. Then he felt compelled to cred up with his hacker resume, which was interesting. I forget what his specialty was, but there was about 5 students, each who was good at something like decryption, social engineering, algorithms, sniffers, I don't recall. Like a movie plot. And they were nosing around in the f** servers when they got traced back to the internal campus network, then running Novell, and using the private 172.xxx. internal I.P. That's B class, which means thousands of addresses. Next thing they knew, the fedreales were in town looking specifically for who was at the other end. They all ditched their PC's, split town according to him, some never coming back. It was never solved. Quote this if you're interested in learning what happened next to J*m**l.
