It's kind of funny that people are going "not MY Resident Evil!" to it because I remember having that exact same reaction to RE4 when it was announced and ended up loving it. History repeats, I guess. Having said that, RE4 just moved the camera behind you and added a lot more enemies on screen to deal with at once and they could use weapons but RE7 might be too big of a departure and I'm wonder if they would have been better off making it a spinoff like the Revelations games or something. I think another part of the problem is that the previous three games were so completely ridiculous that going immediately into something low key like 7 feels jarring. It wouldn't be so bad if it were a universe reboot but, it's apparently set after RE6. A game where things like Neo-Umbrella and The

Because if they really want to go forward with this vision and style, they just gotta get rid of fuckin' everything. That being said, Resi Evil taking a Silent Hill approach via actual reboot could be a possibility since... well... no more Silent Hill.

Do we know if the gameplay in the teaser actually representative of the full game then? RE suddenly going full on Outlast after a billion third person games seems ballsy.

widespread posted:They call it the F-Virus. The F stands for gently caress You. Yeah, I think this is the one case where they might have been better off making it a reboot than a sequel. It almost feels as if it is a reboot since it seems to have an all-new cast and the style of gameplay is radically different from the previous, but I guess the idea of a reboot has been less marketable lately since they usually almost always turn out terrible.

Mr. Fortitude posted:I can't really see how 7 in its current iteration would possibly connect to 6. Thematically, yeah, it's a long leap. Looking at the demo, RE7's spiritually closer to the "REmake" than to anything that followed it, to the point where they seem to have made a deliberate point of lowering the level of available tech. That was something that sprung out at me about it, actually; the video is timestamped in 2017, but it's a video tape, played on a VCR that's attached to an old CRT, which means it was recorded with the one handheld video camera in 2017 that still uses physical media, and the trailer opens on a still shot of a landline phone. Hell, the house still runs off a fuse box. If it wasn't for that timestamp, you could have told me outright that the game was a flashback to the 1980s or 1990s and I'd have believed you.

What's the Demo like? Trailer looks good, like they're actually trying to make a horror game this time instead of hi-octane explosive action.

Looking at the demo, RE7's spiritually closer to the "REmake" than to anything that followed it, to the point where they seem to have made a deliberate point of lowering the level of available tech. It's an experiment by Umbrella on some poor guy who has been given hallucinogenics from special fungal spores to make him think it is 2017 but it's actually a prequel to RE0 and it turns out that fungus when infused with the T-Virus, makes everyone trip balls and hallucinate stuff and the game ends with the protagonist snapping out of the hallucination, realizing he's murdered a whole bunch of people and screaming at the sky, meanwhile it's revealed to be a VR simulation and Birkin and Wesker stare at the computer monitor brofist each other as the simulated T-Virus exposure experiment is a success. Ozwell Spencer then gives them a pay rise and decides that they need actual real combat data on the T-Virus and Wesker gets the idea to use the idiots he commands at S.T.A.R.S. as test subjects.

So, this is the end of the suplex era for RE I guess. I'm going to miss all the crazy wrestiing moves and bingo jokes. We all PT now. I know I know I shouldn't judge before I've seen more info, but the first person view is a pretty big indicator that we won't be getting any crazy melee options.

Did you try out the 3D audio in the settings? With my HD558s it seemed to work well enough. The nice thing about VR using more accurate positional audio is that you can enjoy it without an HMD. Ending(s?) spoilers: I'm guessing you got the back door key ending? I'm gonna play some more later, I've read checking out the trap-door room prior to the tape revealing it gets you some more items to interact with.

Oh well, I have enough RE on Steam to play before playing an Outlast copy. Yes, I'm one of those that started to play RE games with 4 because the tank controls. I played Outlast and had enough so I'll pass on this one if it's all the time like that. Everyone to their own I guess but after playing REmake I was kind of starting to like the old style but still liked more the action approach.

There will be combat, because there are options mentioning aim assist that are greyed out in the menu. I've got a funny feeling it'll be more like Condemned combat though. Instead of Outlast, it seems more like Condemned and P.T. had a baby together.

The nice thing about VR using more accurate positional audio is that you can enjoy it without an HMD. From what me and my brother have found Doing that just gets you the fuse that the fuse box is missing, which lets you go upstairs and get a slightly different ending Also interesting is that it seems to make the backdoor key spawn you have to actually go through the entirety of video tape land, (which you're able to skip just by going into the menu, for those going through replays and tired of listening to those 2 jackasses talk) otherwise you kinda lock yourself into going into the spoiler territory above. Luckily you're not stuck if you do this since you can just rewatch the tape at any point anyway. The search continues as to what to do with the drat mannequin finger though. It kinda looks like you'd be able to examine it and be able to do something with it like in the old games but that doesn't seem to be the case. The one thing that's still really bothering me is In the attic right besides the phone that triggers the other ending is a photo of a helicopter with i guess the Umbrella logo on it?, don't know if looking at that triggers anything else in the house or maybe there's something else to it Mr. Fortitude posted:There will be combat, because there are options mentioning aim assist that are greyed out in the menu. The axe is another weird thing since you can't really do anything with it other than break various thing around the house that have nothing in them. As someone who really only liked Resident Evil 4, I'm surprised that I'm actually somewhat intrigued by this game. I'm not sure I'll actually end up buying it, but at the very least it's neat to see Capcom trying something new, even if something "new" is just ripping off P.T. instead of doing another straight up shooter. But I had a little bit of fun figuring out how to trigger the three known endings, I wouldn't mind it if Capcom kept combat to a minimum and just had a focus on atmosphere and puzzles.

Fun thing i figured out, is that keeping your back to the wall after triggering one of the phone endings prevents you from getting welcomed to the family, so theoretically you could trigger the phone ending, get the back door key and get the back door ending

Capcom probably wouldn't be able to make a AAA RE7 in the vein on Rise of the Tomb Raider or Uncharted 4 You need a large, disciplined team working on a modern, fully featured game engine. Panta Rhei is MIA, RE7 runs on a 'RE Engine,' and the company has had productivity problems delivering feature rich games on modern consoles. They can't even buy nice stock photos for their engine logo: Rebooting the series into a game with a smaller scope is better choice than delivering a content starved AAA game in today's market.
