As of 29 November 2015, fifteen fatalities were attributed to the explosion. The dust explosion, which occurred on a music stage during a "Color Play Asia" party (Chinese: 彩色派對; pinyin: cǎisè pàidú), has been called the "worst incident of mass injury [ever] in New Taipei". The powder was identified, by some sources, as colored corn starch. ... Many victims were lightly clad because of hot weather (36.6 °C (97.9 °F)) and the water park venue, and suffered burns over large portions of their bodies. Some victims suffered burns to 80-90% of their skin. ... Two suicides were linked to the event: a father of a burn victim committed suicide, while another suicidal man donated his skin to the victims ... After the accident, the government has adopted several emergency-related measures, such as the easing of the requirements for National Health Insurance coverage for burn victims, importing large amount of artificial skin and cadaver.

1979 Sydney Ghost Train Fire On the night of 9 June 1979, a fire broke out inside the ride at approximately 10:15 pm. Due to a combination of low water pressure, under-staffing within the park, and inadequate coverage of the Ghost Train by the park's fire hose system, the fire was able to completely consume the ride. It took an hour to bring the fire under control, but it was extinguished before any significant damage could be done to the adjacent River Caves and Big Dipper. Around 35 people were believed to have been on the ride when thick smoke began to escape from the tunnel doors. Ride staff raised the alarm, and began to pull people from the ride as their cars exited the tunnel. It was initially thought that everybody had escaped the fire, but at around 11:30 pm, the bodies of seven people were found inside the ride: John Godson and his two children, Damien and Craig, and four Waverley College students; Jonathon Billings, Richard Carroll, Michael Johnson, and Seamus Rahilly. At the time of the fire, investigating police speculated that the seven had climbed out of their cars and unsuccessfully tried to find their way out of the tunnel; had they stayed in the cars, they might have survived. Other evacuated passengers reported seeing empty cars exit the tunnel on fire. Incidents and Seaworld Eagle One Monorail On August 11, 1990, a woman threw her four-month-old daughter onto the tracks of the park's monorail. The baby supposedly fell at least eight feet. The event occurred at one of the monorail's loading stations located at the Anheuser-Busch Hospitality Center. A monorail operator spotted the baby and immediately shut off the power. Although the baby did have extensive injuries to her head, she ultimately recovered. The mother was in an altercation with the baby's father when the baby was reportedly tossed over a fence and into the path of the monorail. Although the mother stated that the baby slipped out of her arms, that claim was dismissed due to the height of the fence. A source stated that the mother confessed to throwing her baby girl onto the tracks in order to prove to the baby's father that it was her baby and she could have done whatever she wanted to her. Both the father and mother did face charges.

Americans are poo poo people not fit for society. That's not very unnerving, so I'll write about my neighbor who ate his wife instead (who was also friends with my uncle it turns out!!). I'm not a writer though so it'll likely be bad. I apologize for this. Also english is not my first language so if you complain you're probably racist. The cannibal was actually my old neighbor. I currently live a door away from a dude who got 10 years for probably murdering the mother of his child (although he was released after someone realized it could also be another dude who was already in jail for strangling his ex-wife, so I guess they dropped it.) Anyway, on to the good stuff. Karlstad, Sweden. 1969. Rune is a 28 year old employee of the Skoghall paper mill, then the regions main employer for fuckups. Rune (pronounced Ruh-neh) is notorious among his friends for not really thinking things through and for trying to fleeze money off strangers. After the news got out people would also claim he was gay, but I think it's more likely that's just people being lovely. My uncle Sven-Einar worked with him back then, and apparently he one day showed up looking "weird". Apparently he had always had strange little tics, but they had been blown out of proportion now. He'd look behind his back all the time and wouldn't speak other than the occasional grunt. He stops showing up for work one day. My uncle hears from his boss that Rune had been arrested for murder. There had been a fight between Rune and his wife, Kerstin. Kerstin wanted to visit her parents for Lucia, which Rune didn't find very appealing at all as they insisted on playing this game, which he hated, so he hit her. And hit her. And hit her. Then he hits her with an axe. She predictably dies, which according to my uncle came as a surprise for Rune.(???) In a panic he cut up her body and threw it here. This is December 14th, 1969. They won't find whatever is left of the body until spring. He doesn't throw away all of it though. He keeps a calf, her He keeps this in his freezer and would eat bits and pieces of her for lunch at work. He reports his wife as missing during this time. He tells the police he was gone for a short walk to make a phone call, and when he returned she was gone! Kerstins parents loved Rune, so they fully believed this. Two months after the murder he gives them the last known photograph of her, and all three of them cry about it. Police Folke Nygren and Nils Jonsson don't buy this for a second. After a brief investigation it turns out both Rune and his wife wrote a LOT of letters. Rune had letters from hundreds of women across the country, and they travel all over the country to interrogate every single one of them, which slowly paints a picture which doesn't add up. The first clue that Something Was Up was when they noticed Rune hadn't returned all of Kerstin clothes to her parents, but kept a pair of panties. It's also revealed one of her shirts is missing, which would later be found buried outside the house, bloodied. It also turned out the person Rune was allegedly calling was out of country during that period. It's now March. The police sends a diver to look for human remains on the bottom of Norsälven, and while they're looking for bodies Rune is being interrogated. After 20 hours he confesses. "I've worked as a cop for 25 years, and I've never met someone so cold in the face of what he had done" Folke Nygren said to Expressen on May 14th 1970. Rune, who murdered and ate his wife, is sentenced to five of psychiatric care but is released after three. Here's a picture of him! I used to steal from his apple tree when I was a kid, and I guess I'm lucky that all he did was call my parents.

I bet eightpole is glad they did not steal this guy's apples! Tsuyama Massacre Mutsuo Toi cut the electricity line to the village of Kamo on the evening of 20 May, which left the community in darkness. At around 1:30 a.m. on 21 May, he killed his 76-year-old grandmother by decapitating her with an axe. Then he strapped two flashlights to his head and prowled through the village entering the homes of his neighbours. He killed 29 neighbours (27 of whom died at the scene of the incident, while two others were fatally wounded, dying of their injuries later) and seriously injured three others in about an hour and half using a Browning shotgun, a Japanese sword and an axe. This was almost half of the residents of the small community. At dawn he committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest. ... He was interested in the story of Sada Abe, the prostitute who, in May 1936, strangled her lover then severed his penis. He took part in "Yobai" or "night-crawling", a rural custom which involved creeping into young women's bedrooms during the night to seek sexual intercourse. Hey what was that club in the US that was a horrible fire in a night club? Turns out Japan has something like that too! Yay Sennichi Department Store Building fire The fire started at 22:27 in the third floor, where women's dresses were sold. The cause of the fire was said to be a cigarette butt or a smouldering match left behind by a construction worker. Immediate attempts to extinguish the fire failed. The fire department was informed of the fire at 22:40 and started firefighting at 22:43. By that time, the third and fourth floors were fuming black smoke. Women's dresses for sale caught fire and helped spread the fire. The four floors from the second to the fifth were ablaze. Poisonous gas resulting from burning construction materials filled the stairway and caused the majority of casualties. The loss was exacerbated by the locked exits in the cabaret. When elevators ceased to function, the situation turned into a mass panic. Twenty-four people attempted to escape by jumping out of windows, of whom 22 fell to their deaths. Ninety-six were found dead inside the cabaret. The fire was brought under control the next day and finally extinguished on the third day. Of the dead, 93 suffered carbon dioxide poisoning, three died from compression injuries in the chest and abdomen (meaning that they were probably trampled to death), and 22 died from jumping. Of the injured, 27 were firemen. Daegu subway fire The arsonist was Kim Dae-han (김대한|김대한; 金大漢), a 56-year-old unemployed former taxi driver who had suffered a stroke in November 2001 that left him partly paralyzed. Kim was dissatisfied with his medical treatment and had expressed sentiments of violence and depression; he later told police he wanted to kill himself, but to do so in a crowded place rather than alone ... Transcripts show Choi Sang-yeol made three announcements advising passengers in train 1080 to remain seated while he attempted to reach superiors. Finally, he was advised "Quickly, run somewhere else. Go up... kill the engine and go." Choi then opened the doors and fled, but in doing so he removed the master key, which led to a shutdown of the onboard batteries that powered the train doors and effectively sealed passengers inside. Later investigation showed that 79 passengers remained trapped inside train 1080 and died there. ... The intensity of the fire made it difficult to accurately assess the number of victims. Most were burned beyond recognition, many to the bone, and required DNA analysis to identify. A total of 192 people are believed to have perished. Of the bodies found, 185 were identifiable; six could not initially be identified, of which three were discovered using DNA; and one person's possessions were identified but their remains could not be located.

Back to the weird and impressive and not simply gruesome. Longest prison sentences ever served in the USA. Current winner is 66 years. There is a list of other lengthy sentences, some over 50 years and counting. Some of the crimes are heinous but there is one sentence running to over 60 years for two counts of assault not as serious as murder or homicide. Oldest man ever imprisoned was 108 years old. https://mikedashhistory.com/2010/07/24/a-prison-curiosity/ This website is great, Obscure subjects treated sceptically, weird, surprising, well laid out (with images and sources cited), clearly written and reassuringly fully researched. If you've lived somewhere your whole life and never had to worry about earthquakes, even a small one can be pretty terrifying until you think about what's happening for a second and calm down. I live in downtown Baltimore and we had a tiny one a few years ago but I remember for a few seconds I didn't even consider that it was an earthquake, I figured it was something worse. I feel a little bit of a rumble and I look outside and the cars on my block are all slightly bouncing up and down on their tires, for just a moment I thought a gigantic asteroid was going to hit or a nuke had gone off or something crazy like that.

Apparently the FBI are reopening their investigation on the Original Night Stalker, which is a drat cold case. The history surrounding this serial killer is particularly frightening because he often went after married couples inside their houses, not just folks who lived alone. I have to think they're doing it because they think some new information may come to light. It would be great to see this case closed after so long.

Alligators will store carcasses under water to let them rot before they eat them. Usually they do that with smaller animals that they can't quit swallow whole or really big ones, so maybe the gator wasn't that big.

A few months before the quake a tech had dropped an entire transmission assembly on the floor from atop a transmission jack (a tall rolling assembly intended to lift the trans unit into place in a vehicle that's up on a lift). The impact felt similar to the quake but of course was really goddamn loud.
