Oohh, weird twin stuff? How about-

quote:

Ursula and Sabina Eriksson (born 1967) are Swedish twin sisters who came to national attention in the United Kingdom in May 2008 after an apparent episode of folie à deux (or "shared psychosis"), a rare psychiatric disorder in which delusional beliefs are transmitted from one individual to another, which resulted in a series of bizarre incidents on the M6 motorway and the subsequent killing of Glenn Hollinshead of Fenton, Staffordshire. There was no evidence that drugs or alcohol were involved in the incidents on the M6 or the death of Hollinshead.

The twins had been in Ireland before travelling to England and boarding a coach for London at Liverpool. Their odd behaviour after exiting the coach at a service station on the M6 – including not allowing the bags they were clutching to be searched – caused the driver not to allow them back on the coach. The two were later seen on the central reservation of the M6. When Highways Agency Traffic Officers arrived to assist the women, they ran across the busy motorway. Ursula managed to dodge traffic - Sabina was first struck by a SEAT Leon.

Shortly after police arrived, the women again ran onto the motorway and were struck by oncoming vehicles, a Volkswagen Polo hitting Sabina and a Mercedes-Benz Actros lorry crushing Ursula's legs. Sabina suffered a serious head injury that left her unconscious for several minutes. When Sabina regained consciousness, she refused medical aid and attacked a police officer, at which point she was arrested. Appearing calm, although a bit "odd", as she was processed by police in Stoke-on-Trent, she was therefore released from custody. Shortly afterward she was taken in by Hollinshead, whom she later stabbed to death in an unprovoked attack. She was pursued running from the scene and arrested in hospital after jumping from a bridge onto a busy trunk road, later pleading guilty to manslaughter with diminished responsibility. She was sentenced to five years imprisonment and released on parole in 2011.

The incident of them being hit by a loving LORRY happened to be filmed as well- (1:10 for the action)(edit- oh and a xenophobic caption towards the end as well wtf :( )

Robert Stack posted:

Twenty miles northwest of Cincinnati is the small farming town of Fenald, Ohio. For many years, the town’s main employer was “The Feed Materials Production Center,” also known as N.L.O. Unknown to the public, NLO was actually owned by the Department of Energy. From 1953 to 1989, it was one of the few plants in the United States that secretly processed high-grade uranium for nuclear weapons. Former N.L.O employee Harry Easterling believed the plant was safe:

“When I was hired, they said that it was a low level radiation plant. They told me there was nothing back there that would bother you and to just go on about your business. Don’t tell anybody what you were doing and everything would be fine.”

But conditions at the plant weren’t fine. In the fall of 1984, N.L.O. was rocked by scandal when a factory accident released massive amounts of radioactive smoke into the atmosphere. An investigation later revealed that, over the years, N.L.O. had released more than 200 tons of radioactive dust particles into the air and local water sources. Reporter D.C. Cole investigated the story:

“We had an environmental disaster. I think if you did a survey around the Fernald community now, you would find very few people who trust the government.”

In June of 1984, just a few months before the N.L.O. disaster, one of the plant’s employees, Dave Bocks, died a gruesome death inside the factory. His family was convinced he was murdered, possibly because he was going to blow the whistle on the quantity of radioactivity the plant was releasing.

Dave was hired at N.L.O. as a pipe fitter in 1981, and quickly earned the trust and respect of his co-workers. Dave was divorced, but remained close to his ex-wife and three children. Casey Drake is Dave Bocks’ daughter:

“He was great. He would do anything for us. Kind as can be, loved his children, did his job.”

Dave worked the graveyard shift. On Sunday night at 11:00 PM, he met his rideshare partner and co-worker, Harry Easterling, in the parking lot at a local restaurant as usual:

“Dave got into my truck, we left, had a little conversation on the way to work. He had talked about vacation with his kids and bought a new lunch box for work. Everything seemed to be normal.”

Dave’s job was to inspect and maintain equipment throughout the factory. This included making sure that the safety pumps and dust collectors used in the uranium processing were working properly. Harry realized Dave was aware of what the factory was doing:

“Dave was a fairly quiet guy, but if you worked on a job, and it was high radiation level, Dave would tell you, ‘You know, that particular dust collector is fairly radioactive, so watch yourself,’ or, ‘That pump has a certain kind of acid in it so be careful when you work on it.’”

Only the maintenance crew and security personnel worked the graveyard shift. The production lines were shut down. At midnight, Dave reported to the maintenance room for his assignment. Harry recalls that the night began just like any other:

“Dave opened up his tool box and left his keys and lock on top. He went to one area and I worked on a job at another plant.”

A worker saw Dave and a supervisor in a parked pickup truck. He said Dave and the supervisor seemed to be having a “serious discussion”, but he could not tell what they were talking about. He noted that the windows of the truck were rolled up, even though the weather was hot and humid.

An hour later, the same witness ran into Dave on the factory grounds. He noticed that Dave was walking towards Plant 4, not Plant 8 where he’d been assigned. It was the last time Dave Bocks was seen alive. Later that morning, Harry Easterling became suspicious because he hadn’t seen Dave in hours:

“At approximately 7:00 that morning, we had a safety meeting in the conference room in Plant 4. We showed up for the meeting, but Dave wasn’t there. I walked back over to the maintenance building, put my tools away, and noticed that Dave’s toolbox was still open. I thought he was probably working overtime so I went in, made a few phone calls, but still couldn’t locate him. I went back out and told the security guard at the desk that Dave hadn’t come out, I was going home, and I would meet him the next night at the restaurant.”

At around 7:30 that morning, a furnace operator in Plant 6 told his supervisor that the casings in his oven were covered with a strange, sticky residue. The worker also noticed a strange odor. The supervisor apparently found nothing wrong and told the furnace operator to go back to work.

On the way to his next shift, Harry went to the restaurant to meet Dave as usual. It was Dave’s turn to drive, and his car was already there:

“There wasn’t anything out of the ordinary because he would go pull his car in and go get something to eat or get something to take for lunch and then come back to the car. I leaned up against Dave’s car, and I noticed that the fender was still cold. So I reached over, touched the hood and it was still cold.”

Harry was worried. When he got to work, he reported Dave missing and had a security guard pry open his locker. Inside the plant, an investigation had begun. Plant records show that at 5:15 on the morning Dave disappeared, the temperature in the furnace in Plant 6 had briefly dropped 28 degrees. This sudden change suggested that something “foreign” had been dumped into it. A worker also found what appeared to be piece of bone on the lip of the furnace. The Sheriff’s Department was called in and the furnace was shut down.

It took three days for the molten liquid inside to cool. When employees searched through the waste material, they found a set of keys. Former Hamilton County Police Chief, Deputy Sheriff Victor Carelli, investigated the case:

“The keys found belonged to the victim’s car. They also belonged to three padlocks of his, and one key we believed went into his residence but we couldn’t prove that because it was bent and not very good shape.”

If the keys pulled from the furnace were Dave’s, they would presumably have fallen in along with the “foreign body” at 5:15 AM. But if Dave’s keys were seen more than two hours later in his toolbox, how did they get into the furnace?

Investigators concluded that Dave was probably dead. Harry was stunned. He was also confused about Dave’s keys:

“When I left the plant to go over to the maintenance shop, his keys were in the box. When I left there, to go home, they were still in the box. I went home. When I came back that night, his keys were still in the top of his toolbox. The supervisor closed his box, put the lock on his toolbox and took his keys out of the lock. And from there on I do not know what happened to the keys.”

Besides the keys, investigators found a steel toe from a boot, part of an eyeglass frame, fragments of Dave’s walkie-talkie, and a stainless steel wire that was looped together in three oddly connecting circles. Also recovered were several pieces of human bone.
Investigators were unable to determine how Dave ended up in the furnace. They suggested that he might have committed suicide. Dave had a history of psychological problems, and around the time of his divorce, he had apparently tried to kill himself. Dave Bocks’ daughter, Casey Drake believes otherwise:

“I know my father did not commit suicide. He had purchased groceries for the week. He was planning a vacation with my younger brother and me for the following summer to Florida, and he had paid all of his bills for the month. There was no reason for him to commit suicide.”

Former N.L.O. employee, David Day agrees:

“He was probably lowered into the furnace and murdered. I can’t think of any other way that it could have happened. I don’t believe that it could have been suicide or that it could have been an accident.”

Investigative reporter, D. C. Cole believes he knows why Dave Bocks may have been murdered:

“I think he knew something. It’s possible that he was a whistle blower or was going to be a whistle blower. Plant 8 had released four times more radioactive contaminants into the environment than any other plant at the plant site. I believe that they could have either shot him, or they could have hit him with something and knocked him unconscious. They took the body back to Plant 6, where the furnace is. I would hate to think that he was conscious. I can’t imagine a more horrible death than that.”

According to former Chief of Police Victor Carrelli, the evidence for murder was never there:

“No one ever gave us any indication or reason to believe that foul play may have occurred.”

Harry Easterling hopes someone might come forward and tell what they know:

“There are probably people out there that know what happened, and there may not be. Either way, if they did, I doubt anybody would tell for fear of their life.”

In 1989, five years after Dave Bocks’ death, the N.L.O. was shut down. Sadly, years later, Dave’s family is still unable to lay him to rest. Dave’s remains are just a few bone fragments and are too toxic to be buried in the ground. They have been sealed in a drum, and shipped off to a Nevada test site to be stored with other radioactive materials.

How Dave died and why remains a mystery.

On 27 June 2015, flammable starch-based powder exploded at the Formosa Fun Coast, a recreational water park in Bali, New Taipei, Taiwan, injuring 508 people, with 199 in critical condition. As of 29 November 2015, fifteen fatalities were attributed to the explosion. The dust explosion, which occurred on a music stage during a "Color Play Asia" party (Chinese: 彩色派對; pinyin: cǎisè pàidú), has been called the "worst incident of mass injury [ever] in New Taipei". The powder was identified, by some sources, as colored corn starch.
...
Many victims were lightly clad because of hot weather (36.6 °C (97.9 °F)) and the water park venue, and suffered burns over large portions of their bodies. Some victims suffered burns to 80-90% of their skin.
...
Two suicides were linked to the event: a father of a burn victim committed suicide, while another suicidal man donated his skin to the victims
...
After the accident, the government has adopted several emergency-related measures, such as the easing of the requirements for National Health Insurance coverage for burn victims, importing large amount of artificial skin and cadaver.

1979 Sydney Ghost Train Fire

On the night of 9 June 1979, a fire broke out inside the ride at approximately 10:15 pm. Due to a combination of low water pressure, under-staffing within the park, and inadequate coverage of the Ghost Train by the park's fire hose system, the fire was able to completely consume the ride. It took an hour to bring the fire under control, but it was extinguished before any significant damage could be done to the adjacent River Caves and Big Dipper.

Around 35 people were believed to have been on the ride when thick smoke began to escape from the tunnel doors. Ride staff raised the alarm, and began to pull people from the ride as their cars exited the tunnel. It was initially thought that everybody had escaped the fire, but at around 11:30 pm, the bodies of seven people were found inside the ride: John Godson and his two children, Damien and Craig, and four Waverley College students; Jonathon Billings, Richard Carroll, Michael Johnson, and Seamus Rahilly. At the time of the fire, investigating police speculated that the seven had climbed out of their cars and unsuccessfully tried to find their way out of the tunnel; had they stayed in the cars, they might have survived. Other evacuated passengers reported seeing empty cars exit the tunnel on fire.

Incidents and Seaworld
Eagle One Monorail
On August 11, 1990, a woman threw her four-month-old daughter onto the tracks of the park's monorail. The baby supposedly fell at least eight feet. The event occurred at one of the monorail's loading stations located at the Anheuser-Busch Hospitality Center. A monorail operator spotted the baby and immediately shut off the power. Although the baby did have extensive injuries to her head, she ultimately recovered. The mother was in an altercation with the baby's father when the baby was reportedly tossed over a fence and into the path of the monorail. Although the mother stated that the baby slipped out of her arms, that claim was dismissed due to the height of the fence. A source stated that the mother confessed to throwing her baby girl onto the tracks in order to prove to the baby's father that it was her baby and she could have done whatever she wanted to her. Both the father and mother did face charges.

Americans are poo poo people not fit for society.

That's not very unnerving, so I'll write about my neighbor who ate his wife instead (who was also friends with my uncle it turns out!!). I'm not a writer though so it'll likely be bad. I apologize for this. Also english is not my first language so if you complain you're probably racist.

The cannibal was actually my old neighbor. I currently live a door away from a dude who got 10 years for probably murdering the mother of his child (although he was released after someone realized it could also be another dude who was already in jail for strangling his ex-wife, so I guess they dropped it.)

Anyway, on to the good stuff.

Karlstad, Sweden. 1969.
Rune is a 28 year old employee of the Skoghall paper mill, then the regions main employer for fuckups. Rune (pronounced Ruh-neh) is notorious among his friends for not really thinking things through and for trying to fleeze money off strangers. After the news got out people would also claim he was gay, but I think it's more likely that's just people being lovely.

My uncle Sven-Einar worked with him back then, and apparently he one day showed up looking "weird". Apparently he had always had strange little tics, but they had been blown out of proportion now. He'd look behind his back all the time and wouldn't speak other than the occasional grunt.

He stops showing up for work one day. My uncle hears from his boss that Rune had been arrested for murder.
There had been a fight between Rune and his wife, Kerstin. Kerstin wanted to visit her parents for Lucia, which Rune didn't find very appealing at all as they insisted on playing this game, which he hated, so he hit her. And hit her. And hit her. Then he hits her with an axe. She predictably dies, which according to my uncle came as a surprise for Rune.(???)

In a panic he cut up her body and threw it here.
This is December 14th, 1969. They won't find whatever is left of the body until spring.

He doesn't throw away all of it though. He keeps a calf, her oval officevagina, and her fingers, because on top of it all he also had a nail fetish.
He keeps this in his freezer and would eat bits and pieces of her for lunch at work.

He reports his wife as missing during this time. He tells the police he was gone for a short walk to make a phone call, and when he returned she was gone!
Kerstins parents loved Rune, so they fully believed this. Two months after the murder he gives them the last known photograph of her, and all three of them cry about it.

Police Folke Nygren and Nils Jonsson don't buy this for a second. After a brief investigation it turns out both Rune and his wife wrote a LOT of letters. Rune had letters from hundreds of women across the country, and they travel all over the country to interrogate every single one of them, which slowly paints a picture which doesn't add up. The first clue that Something Was Up was when they noticed Rune hadn't returned all of Kerstin clothes to her parents, but kept a pair of panties. It's also revealed one of her shirts is missing, which would later be found buried outside the house, bloodied. It also turned out the person Rune was allegedly calling was out of country during that period.

It's now March. The police sends a diver to look for human remains on the bottom of Norsälven, and while they're looking for bodies Rune is being interrogated. After 20 hours he confesses. "I've worked as a cop for 25 years, and I've never met someone so cold in the face of what he had done" Folke Nygren said to Expressen on May 14th 1970.

Rune, who murdered and ate his wife, is sentenced to five of psychiatric care but is released after three.

Here's a picture of him!

I used to steal from his apple tree when I was a kid, and I guess I'm lucky that all he did was call my parents.

Tsuyama Massacre
Mutsuo Toi cut the electricity line to the village of Kamo on the evening of 20 May, which left the community in darkness. At around 1:30 a.m. on 21 May, he killed his 76-year-old grandmother by decapitating her with an axe. Then he strapped two flashlights to his head and prowled through the village entering the homes of his neighbours. He killed 29 neighbours (27 of whom died at the scene of the incident, while two others were fatally wounded, dying of their injuries later) and seriously injured three others in about an hour and half using a Browning shotgun, a Japanese sword and an axe. This was almost half of the residents of the small community. At dawn he committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest.

He was interested in the story of Sada Abe, the prostitute who, in May 1936, strangled her lover then severed his penis. He took part in "Yobai" or "night-crawling", a rural custom which involved creeping into young women's bedrooms during the night to seek sexual intercourse.

Hey what was that club in the US that was a horrible fire in a night club? Turns out Japan has something like that too! Yay :(
Sennichi Department Store Building fire
The fire started at 22:27 in the third floor, where women's dresses were sold. The cause of the fire was said to be a cigarette butt or a smouldering match left behind by a construction worker. Immediate attempts to extinguish the fire failed. The fire department was informed of the fire at 22:40 and started firefighting at 22:43. By that time, the third and fourth floors were fuming black smoke. Women's dresses for sale caught fire and helped spread the fire. The four floors from the second to the fifth were ablaze.

Poisonous gas resulting from burning construction materials filled the stairway and caused the majority of casualties. The loss was exacerbated by the locked exits in the cabaret. When elevators ceased to function, the situation turned into a mass panic. Twenty-four people attempted to escape by jumping out of windows, of whom 22 fell to their deaths. Ninety-six were found dead inside the cabaret. The fire was brought under control the next day and finally extinguished on the third day. Of the dead, 93 suffered carbon dioxide poisoning, three died from compression injuries in the chest and abdomen (meaning that they were probably trampled to death), and 22 died from jumping. Of the injured, 27 were firemen.

Daegu subway fire
The arsonist was Kim Dae-han (김대한|김대한; 金大漢), a 56-year-old unemployed former taxi driver who had suffered a stroke in November 2001 that left him partly paralyzed. Kim was dissatisfied with his medical treatment and had expressed sentiments of violence and depression; he later told police he wanted to kill himself, but to do so in a crowded place rather than alone
...
Transcripts show Choi Sang-yeol made three announcements advising passengers in train 1080 to remain seated while he attempted to reach superiors. Finally, he was advised "Quickly, run somewhere else. Go up... kill the engine and go." Choi then opened the doors and fled, but in doing so he removed the master key, which led to a shutdown of the onboard batteries that powered the train doors and effectively sealed passengers inside. Later investigation showed that 79 passengers remained trapped inside train 1080 and died there.
...
The intensity of the fire made it difficult to accurately assess the number of victims. Most were burned beyond recognition, many to the bone, and required DNA analysis to identify. A total of 192 people are believed to have perished. Of the bodies found, 185 were identifiable; six could not initially be identified, of which three were discovered using DNA; and one person's possessions were identified but their remains could not be located.

I was at work when that happened! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Virginia_earthquake You'd've thought the entire state fell down. Nope, just some masonry.
I got back to my office and my boss asked "did you feel it?" I had, but I assumed it was just our elevators being lovely like usual.

If you've lived somewhere your whole life and never had to worry about earthquakes, even a small one can be pretty terrifying until you think about what's happening for a second and calm down.

I live in downtown Baltimore and we had a tiny one a few years ago but I remember for a few seconds I didn't even consider that it was an earthquake, I figured it was something worse. I feel a little bit of a rumble and I look outside and the cars on my block are all slightly bouncing up and down on their tires, for just a moment I thought a gigantic asteroid was going to hit or a nuke had gone off or something crazy like that.

I felt the barest edge of one a few years ago in southern NY, probably the same one. I was working at a car dealership and looked into the shop to see if something fell, then realized I hadn't heard anything so I was super confused.

It was just the merest like shudder feeling in the floor, half the office didn't even feel it.

I would live in Sweden in a heartbeat. The problem is that I'm a 5'11" man so I would be confused for a child all the time.

Short men there literally kill themselves.

Derail prevention: I am not saying 5'11" is short.

Good news, according to wikipedia 5'11" is the median height for adult males in Sweden.

Apparently the median height for American males is 5'9", but somehow I am extremely short at 5'7" which I find unnerving

Apparently the FBI are reopening their investigation on the Original Night Stalker, which is a drat cold case. The history surrounding this serial killer is particularly frightening because he often went after married couples inside their houses, not just folks who lived alone. I have to think they're doing it because they think some new information may come to light. It would be great to see this case closed after so long.

How has nobody posted yet about the toddler that got dragged off by an alligator at Disney World?

Also apparently his body was found "intact," so idk what was going on? I guess the gator wasn't hungry, but gently caress it, easy meal, stash him for later?

Alligators will store carcasses under water to let them rot before they eat them. Usually they do that with smaller animals that they can't quit swallow whole or really big ones, so maybe the gator wasn't that big.

This describes the most recent earthquake I felt where I live - I was at work, and I assumed that it had been one of the exceptionally large women who worked there walking past. The building was poorly constructed and they actually made the floor shake.

The upstairs filling area at the dealership was like that, anyone walking around caused perceptible tremors in the lovely floor.

A few months before the quake a tech had dropped an entire transmission assembly on the floor from atop a transmission jack (a tall rolling assembly intended to lift the trans unit into place in a vehicle that's up on a lift). The impact felt similar to the quake but of course was really goddamn loud.
