I was looking for ammo in the lebron vs Jordan debate and came across a game changer. During the 2 years between 3peats, losing Horace Grant hurt the bulls more than losing Jordan.

Time line:
Bulls win championship.
Jordan retires and the bulls only lose 2 less regular season games.
Horace grant leaves in free agency and bulls are in a tailspin. Jordan comes back and bulls make playoffs. Jordan and pippen lose to Shaq and none other than Horace loving Grant in the playoffs.
Bulls acquire Dennis Rodman to fill the power forward role of the sorely missed Horace Grant and then 3peat.

It would be fascinating to see people's perception of Jordan if the Bulls had won the year after his (first) retirement.

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, MAD-2R World
The NBA is essentially incapable of enforcing its game rules in real time with any consistency when the players are faster than white people from the 1950s.

There is bias but there is also random middle aged dudes in striped shirts trying to figure out what the gently caress someone like LeBron just did that looks like a video game glitch. It was already turning into high speed guessing in the 1980s.

Unrelated, imagine LeBron playing in an era that allowed players to push people around MORE, and everyone was a worse athlete.

In the days before League Pass, you actually had to buy single game DVDs if you wanted to see full games over here.

Yeah I don't know how many of you guys have ever tried to actually officiate a game, but it is basically impossible even at low competitive levels. I can't even imagine how fast the pro game must be when you're 5 feet away from it.

Awesome.

All this Cleveland celebration talk just reminds me of Lombardi Gras which is probably the biggest celebration the Gulf South region has ever had. And it lasted at least a week.

It's been argued fairly convincingly that LeBron, as with the Jordan Rules, gets substantially fewer fouls called FOR him because it seems to have very little rebound effect when people slam into him and he keeps freight-training forward. His superhuman athleticism allows him to keep moving through contact and finish a play where a normal human would have been knocked to the ground and had to wait and see if the ref wants to blow the whistle.

Have you ever seen an NBA player collide with a normal sized human like a ref or a fan? They look like a house is falling on them. He shrugs off that kind of contact with no whistle multiple times a game.

It was always fun to focus on Shaq on the court, because the amount of punishment he received and dished out was just ridiculous.

Absolutely. Shaq got assaulted and would carry several men to the rim with him. I imagine Wilt was the same except fighting in basketball was different and he was allowed to hammer back if it got too blatant.

JR Smith is the loving best. Dude kept soaking in every goddamn thing about this, and would go into the crowd to high five people, sign stuff, etc

Absolutely unreal, the photos of the celebration are insane. At last count I heard it was estimated at 1.4 million which is a little over half the population of the county.

I'm pretty sure LeBron could kill a man here and everyone would look the other way. I've never seen so much energy here and that includes the Indians in the 90s when people would come out to watch them coming back from being on the road.

I was at the parade too. Finally slept today after 3 long days of partying. Played craps with James Jones and Damon Jones one of the coaches of the cavs. They were at the casino real late last night, they also said JR Smith was there somewhere but I never saw him. Now I know what is like to be around over a million people. Pretty crazy and when I left downtown this morning around 9 to go to breakfast a lot of the area was already starting to be cleaned up.
