It's unfortunate that the Casino Night DLC is a bad pinball mini-game instead of something cool.

I meant more like "I don't care about the weird look my wife gives me when she catches me jamming out to video game music" but there is no doubt in my mind that "ironically listening to video game music" is a thing that has happened e: actually I have an example and it is when a friend of mine tried to be edgy by driving slowly down the main road in town blasting Super Mario 1 music to "make fun of" people who drive around blasting rap or whatever. I don't get it either. Snow Cone Capone fucked around with this message at 03:47 on Jun 28, 2016 |

Is the 3DS one all 2-D levels? At least the 3d games are almost uniformly bad, the 2d ones are totally hit-or-miss as far as quality. At least one of the Rush games was great, but at least one was really bad; Colors was good, Sonic 4 Eps 1 and 2 were hot garbage, etc.

Sonic Generations 3DS is 2.5D with classic and modern versions of each zone but in this case "modern" means Sonic Rush-style 2D with camera tricks but no true 3D. The classic physics are actually quite good and I think the early classic stages are 1:1 remakes from the original games. I wanna say they give Classic Sonic the homing attack the moment you enter the Dreamcast era for no other reason than Dimps, I guess.

Dimps is the studio that made all the GBA/DS/3DS games from Sonic Advance to Lost World 3DS, as well as Sonic 4 and parts of Unleashed Wii. They love the homing attack and forcing you to go fast at all times and crazy Sonic fans used to spend all their time complaining about the minutiae of their stage design because their brains don't work.

This + the Sonic Rush level is almost an exact copy of how it was in Sonic Rush for Modern Sonic. It was weird that they didn't also copy the Tropical Resort level they already did for the DS Sonic Colors, but it worked out either way I guess.

I'm a huge fan of both Crisis City and Rooftop Run in Generations, and replaying them just now kind of makes me curious about 2006 and Unleashed. Were they really that bad? Heroes was not great but I still managed to have a good time with it.

The Werehog levels suck but the Sonic levels are quite good.

Unleashed's daytime levels weren't very good. Unless you really like holding the square button and QTEs.

sonic games on pc have insanely extensive modding communities for being, well, loving sonic games there's a mod for sonic adventure dx that lets you create a ghost of your fastest run through a level. there's an alternate version that saves every run and plays all of them at once

Steering back to MM somewhat: Freedom Planet, The Least Bad Original The Character Fan Game is a Sonic-esque game that borrows a lot from MMX and other action games of that era, go play it on Wii U or PC if you're hankering for something to play after/instead of MN9.

I love that this thread is mostly discussion about non-MM games.

The swearing-heavy retro job guy finished no miss buster only no damage runs of all the robot masters in the main series (aside from 7 and 8, and including Unlimited). Now he's started into the wily stages. MM1 Wily 1 took him two days. At some point it seems like the challenge itself stopped being particularly difficult for him. His reflexes are unreal.

Steering back to Sonic chat, Tembo the Badass Elephant is what I imagine a modern Sonic game would be if Sonic Team was cryogenically frozen from 1995 to 2015 and told to immediately make a game on new hardware.

Does that mean it's really good and basically what Sonic 4 should have been? Because that game looks pretty great and I'm not sure how I missed a Game Freak / Sega collaboration

Because that game looks pretty great and I'm not sure how I missed a Game Freak / Sega collaboration It's pretty decent. Like the old Sonic games it's less about pure speed and more about momentum. It rewards mastery of the levels and has all the ups and downs of a 16-bit platformer, like it's pretty difficult and repetitive at times. But once you learn the levels you hit a point where you charge through without stopping and the feeling is amazing. At least check out the demo.

Tembo the Badass Elephant is pretty decent. An elephant who is also basically Rambo is a cool concept in itself. The game is a little short, though.
