 First things first, no CWC spoilers in this thread please. No tagged spoilers either.With that out of the way, WWE has decided to do the unthinkable and bring back the Cruiserweights! Not only that but use pretty much all outside talent from around the world to fill out this Cruiserweight tournament. There are some big name indy and global wrestling stars along with a few unknowns to even the die hard indy wrestling fans. The show will air for 10 weeks every Wednesday night after NXT at 9pm Est, only on the WWE Network. The commentators for the show will be hyper enthusiastic Mauro Ranallo and Former WWE Champion Daniel Bryan. Now lets take a look at the bracket and then the competitors.  Way bigger more readable version here. Competitors:  Mustafa Ali - Representing Pakistan Mustafa Ali is an independent wrestler who more often works in the Chicago area for promotions like Dreamwave and Freelance Wrestling. He's a last minute replacement for Brazilian wrestler Zumbi for whatever reasons, though Ali announced he was part of the Cruiserweight Classic months ago when the original participating group was announced. He'll have a lot to prove being a last minute addition.  Gran Metalik - Representing Mexico Gran Metalik also goes by the name Mascara Dorada from the CMLL promotion. CMLL states he is still working for them so his appearance in this tournament was sort of a surprise. Besides working in CMLL he just recently ended a tour with NJPW where he really didn't get to showcase just how good he is. Expect a lot of flips and some technical wrestling out of him and a flashy luchador style.  Tajiri - Representing Japan Tajiri is one of the too former WWE veterans appearing in this tournament. Besides being a wrestler in ECW and WWE he's been all over Japan working pretty much every promotion since leaving WWE. His hard hitting Buzzsaw Kick is a move to look out for, but the real trick he has up his sleeve is the mist he spews in his opponents faces. Rumors are circulating that he's already signed a contract with WWE so he could possibly be a winner.  Zack Sabre Jr. - Representing England Zack Sabre Jr., or ZSJ for short hand, is a mainstay in the UK indies as well as a Junior Heavyweight star in the NOAH promotion out of Japan. His grappling counter based style has now begun taking the US independent scene over with matches in PWG and Evolve. Besides his tricky and brutal submissions and complex reversals he can throw some strong kicks. This is one of the big names that WWE is bringing that lot of people are expecting to win the whole thing.  Noam Dar - Representing Scotland via Israel Noam Dar may hail from Scotland, but he also was born in Israel before moving back to the UK. Not only that but Dar is the youngest wrestler in this tournament at the age of 22. He's mostly been a mainstay in the UK indies since he's been a teenager wrestling the like of Finn Balor, Zack Sabre Jr, and a host of other stars like AJ Styles who've come through the UK indies. His submission skills rival that of ZSJ with a vicious kneebar.  Kota Ibushi - Representing Japan Kota Ibushi is hands down the biggest name in this tournament. He is the guy to beat with a reputation of facing off with multiple WWE and NXT stars like AJ Styles, Sami Zayn, Finn Balor, and Shinsuke Nakamura. Not only is he a high flier but he's deceptively strong pulling off vicious powerbombs and suplexes along with some of the hardest kicks you'll see in this tournament. The odds on favorite from NJPW and DDT has a lot of hype to live up to.  Jack Gallagher - Representing England Jack Gallagher is all about the old school gentleman ways of the World of Sport style wrestling. He's an escape artist and submission expert but with some modern training in martial arts that might catch people off guard. His profile on WWE says his finisher is a running dropkick, but odds are he's going to look to win his matches with a submission hold that his opponents can not escape from.  Cederic Alexander - Representing the USA Cederic Alexander should have been a big star on the indies however his stint in ROH was pretty lackluster and was recently released. While in ROH he looked much heavier and has slimmed down a ton. If Cederic still hits as hard as he did when he was bigger, then a slimmer and more agile version of him should be dangerous for all of the other competitors in the CWC.  Da Mack - Representing Germany Da Mack is may look like he's all about flash and entertainment, but don't let that fool you as he was trained by guys like WWE star Cesaro. Working out of Germany's WXW promotion he's got style like that of Michael Jackson as he moonwalks across the ring and taunts the competition. He's got moves that make Das Wunderkind jealous.  Tony Nese - Representing the USA Tony Nese likes to call himself the Premier Athlete and he proved this by getting into this tournament by beating 3 other members of the CWC at an Evolve show. Nese has been around the world, working in Dragon Gate and a bunch of other indie promotions like PWG and Beyond. Besides his agility he brings a powerful physique that can pull of a devastating 450 splash.  HoHo Lun - Representing Hong Kong, China HoHo Lun has become a bit of a fan favorite when the relative unknown was announced with the original group of wrestlers like Akira Tozawa, Kota Ibushi, and Zack Sabre Jr. People kept talking about HoHo Lun because the name and the fact that China even has wrestling. Well China does, and HoHo Lun is apparently the father of modern wrestling in China. If people didn't know HoHo Lun before this tournament then now they will.  Kenneth Johnson - Representing the USA Kenneth Johnson is a Detroit native whose done all kinds of small time indies. Probably one of the lesser known names representing the USA. Because of that Kenneth Johnson has to prove that he belongs with these bigger names.  Alejandro Saez - Representing Chile As Daniel Bryan said "There's wrestling in Chile?!" Well indeed there is as Alejandro Saez is here for that exact reason. While people are focusing on what country he represents they forget that he's one of the bigger guys in this tournament. Not only is he 6ft 1, but he weighed in at the maximum that one can for this tournament at 205lbs.  Anthony Bennett - Representing the USA Anthony Bennett is all about having fun, if his giant hair isn't a hint. He was trained at the Jersey Monster Factory and boasts about being in his home promotions first Ladder match. During the introductions this kid wore not one but two light up shutter shades, one on his face and on his hair. This kid is hopefully going to be fun to watch.  Clement Petiot - Representing France Clement Petiot has an impressive look and an impressive trainer. Trained by Lance Storm this French grappler has traveled Europe wrestling stars there and world travelers like Chris Hero. He comes to the Crusierweight Classic to show that he's the best cruiserweight, not only in France, but the world.  Fabian Aichner - Representing Italy Fabian Aichner brings a bit a legitimacy to the tournament as a former amateur grappler, winning championships around the world, before becoming a professional wrestler. Fabian has been a multiple time Heavyweight champion across Italy and Europe's wrestling scene, because of that he enters this cruiserweight tournament at an advantage as he weighs 203lbs, close to the limit.  Harv Sihra - Representing India One half of the Bollywood Boyz, Harv Sihra is looking to show that he's not only one of the best tag team wrestlers but one of the best cruiserweight wrestlers. Harv Sihra is a former Ring Ka King tag team champion and current Global Force Wrestling tag team champion with his brother Gurv Sihra.  Gurv Sihra - Representing India The other half of the Bollywood Boyz with his brother Harv. Gurv is also looking to prove his worth as a singles competitor just like his younger brother. However the older brother of the Bollywood Boyz is gonna try his hardest to make sure his younger brother doesn't upstage him.  T.J. Perkins - Representing the Philippines T.J. Perkins is the youngest veteran in pro wrestling, or at least that's what he calls himself. TJP has been in pretty much every modern promotion you can think of now. He's wrestled in New Japan, TNA, ROH, and tons of lucha libre promotions. If there is an indie promotion you can think of odds are this technical wrestling wizard has been in that promotion at one point or another. He's flirted with WWE fame before having trained down in FCW multiple times before it became NXT, so this may finally be the time he breaks out of the pack.  Sean Maluta - Representing America Samoa Sean Maluta is the nephew of Afa the Wild Samoan and yet another member of the massive Anoa'i wrestling family. He's wrestled mostly in his family's WXW promotion in the US team and learning from other members of his family. Sean specializes in strikes and uses the savate kick as a finishing maneuver.  Lince Dorado - Representing Puerto Rico Lince Dorado has been trained by a whose who of indy wrestling. Starting in Chikara he was trained by Mike Quackenbush, Cesaro, Chris Hero, and Skyade. Mostly known from his early Chikara stint, Lince had cut ties from that promotion for a long time now and has been rolling around the Florida independent scene. One thing about Lince's time in Chikara was the out of control dives he used to do where he'd fly straight into the crowd. He enters the CWC to show how much he's matured since those early days.  Raul Mendoza - Representing Mexico Raul Mendoza has been wrestling in the Mexican independents like Perros del Mal and DTU for awhile under the name Jinzo. With a appearances in bigger promotions like AAA and Japanese promotion NOAH, the CWC is the next big step he needs to show off his lucha libre training from legend El Gran Apache.  Rich Swann - Representing the USA Rich Swann is representing current WWE and more importantly the current NXT system as he is the only full time NXT wrestler taking part in this tournament. With a heart wrenching background after losing both his parents and being the smallest man in the tournament, international star Rich Swann has a lot to prove to himself and the fans watching at home.  Damien Slater - Representing Australia Damien Slater is the sole representative of the land down under and hopes to gain a WWE contract like fellow Australian wrestlers TM-61 and Emma. Mostly wrestling in Australia, Slater has a lot of promise and is in the CWC to show that his nickname "The World Beater" was chosen for a reason.  Tyson Dux - Representing Canada Many say that it's about time that Tyson Dux would get a shot in the WWE and Dux would be the first to agree. Dux is a long time veteran of the independent scene and has had brief flirtations with WWE on multiple occasions. He's been in multiple world tournaments and independent juniors tournaments so this is nothing new to the Canadian veteran, though this might be his last big chance at bigger fame in the WWE.  Akira Tozawa - Representing Japan Akira Tozawa is one of Dragon Gate's top stars, but it wasn't his native Dragon Gate that earned him his biggest name, in fact it was American independent promotion PWG. There Tozawa was basically brought under Kevin Owens' wing to be a cocky trash talking and violent wrestler. Those aspects would make anyone else a villain, but deep down Tozawa is all about friendship and that's proof in the stable he leads Monster Express which is all about friendship and competition. Competition is what Tozawa is about to get and you can bet it won't be "Too Easy!"  Drew Gulak - Representing the USA While there are multiple mat technicians from the UK like Zack Sabre Jr or Noam Dar, US wrestler Drew Gulak puts a more violent and smash mouth style on that grappling. Trained in Philadelphia in a mix of Chikara and CZW styles, the hard-nosed Gulak is setting his sights on the CWC trophy and he doesn't care who he picks apart to get in his way as he proved by beating is tag team partner and the other half of the Evolve Tag Champions to get here in the first place.  Ariya Daivari - Representing Iran Ariya Daivari's name may sound familiar and that's because he is the younger brother of former WWE Superstar Shawn Daivari. Trained by his brother and fellow former WWE stars, Ken Anderson and Shelton Benjamin, Ariya is in the CWC to prove that a place is the WWE is something that runs in his family.  Jason Lee - Representing Hong Kong, China Jason Lee is a long time wrestler in Asia spending time not only in China, but in Japan bouncing between promotions like Zero-1, BJW, and Keiji Mutoh's Wrestle-1. Jason Lee pays homage to his idol Bruce Lee in his wrestling and looks to make a name for himself in China and abroad just like his idol.  The Brian Kendrick - Representing the USA The Brian Kendrick has done a lot in wrestling for WWE and the independents, but he's also lost a lot. He was riding high during his original WWE run, quite too literally, which led to his eventual release. He came back to his original love of the indy wrestling scene however WWE was always calling back to him. He had a small appearance in NXT before leaving again and opening his own school, where he trained Eva Marie. Kendrick is looking to make one last comeback and show there's more to him than a failure and a trainer of WWE hopefuls.  Johnny Gargano - Representing the USA Johnny Gargano, or as he likes to be called: Johnny Wrestling, is running on a high right now. Not only has his tag team with Tommaso Ciampa been picking up steam, but everything else in his life seems to be going well. His favorite basketball team just won the championship and later this year he is marrying his long time girlfriend. What better way to add to an already good year for him than to win the CWC.  Tommaso Ciampa - Representing the USA Tommaso Ciampa has had some ups and downs in his life, but the Sicilian Psychopath is focusing on the future. So far his future looks pretty bright as he continues to travel the indies and is making a name in NXT as a singles wrestler and a tag team wrestler. He as one main goal that he's deadset on and that is the CWC trophy. Alternates: With many of these wrestlers being outside talents with other obligations and sometimes grueling schedules the chances odds of injuries are a very real threat. Not only are injuries a possibility but the CWC's weight limit being at 205lbs is legit and if you are over that then you'll need to be replaced as well. For those possibilities Alternates are needed and WWE has 5 of them lined up and ready.  Aaron Solow - Representing the USA Aaron Solow is a young cruiserweight hailing from California, currently residing in Florida. He's attempted to get into the WWE before as a part of Tough Enough. Aaron is also currently in a relationship with NXT star Bayley. Aaron is looking to show that if needed, he is ready to step up to be part of the WWE.  Jesus Yurnet - Representing Puerto Rico Jesus Yurnet, aka Mr. 450, is a star from his native country wrestling in Carlos Colon's WWC promotion. Wrestling there he's faced a handful of WWE alumni and Mexican wrestling legends, like Rey Mysterio. Yes his attire is that of a Super Sayian from Dragon Ball Z, he's been on NXT a bunch of times as well.  Jessy Sorensen - Representing the USA Yes, Jessy Sorensen is the same one of TNA infamy. While in TNA the young Sorensen got his neck broken in a botched dive as another competitor landed on top of his head and neck. Sorensen was thought to never be able to wrestle again and even though TNA promised him that he wouldn't have to, they released him anyway. Back on the indies and doing some NXT spots Jessy is ready to take part in the CWC if needed.  Vandal Ortagun - Representing Turkey Vandal Ortagun is the only representative from Turkey which begs the question; why wasn't he in the tournament by default? Ortagun has been over seas in Japan's Zero-1 promotion as well as currently doing Florida independent shows. If a spot opens for Ortagun he is hoping to show that Turkey is place where wrestling stars can be born.  Kai Katana - Representing the USA Kai Katana has recently had an NXT tryout which helped him get a spot as an alternate for the CWC. Mostly working in the East coast independent scene the CWC has a possibility for the biggest stage of his career that only started in 2012. I'm pretty excited for this, if for no other reason than I'll get a preview of Jack Gallagher before BOLA weekend. I hope Cedric Alexander gets a platform to either get signed or at least increase his profile on the indie scene, it's loving criminal how badly ROH dropped the ball on him over the last couple years. I'm also rooting for Rich Swann to turn some heads in this tournament, he's one of the real good guys of wrestling by all accounts even though I never interacted with him personally before he got signed. Just going by what WWE has listed on their site thus the one like Noam Dar and guys like Jason Lee and HoHo Lun representing Hong Kong directly and not China.

I did my brackets with a Sabre/Ibushi final, with Sabre's semifinal being Tozawa. I'm really not sure about Ibushi's semi so I'm just going to say Perkins.

My final four are Gran Metalik, ZSJ, Ibushi and Swann. CMLL not allowing Mascara Dorada to use his normal ring name makes me think that WWE is trying to sign him so I expect him to go far, but I think everyone expects the finals to be ZSJ vs Ibushi so they're at least going to push him to the semi-finals. Swann is just great, and he deserves to make it as far as he can.

We are totally on the same page. Gran Metallik is a fairly big get with his NJPW and CMLL experience, so I'd have to think he goes far. Plus, lucha vs. grapplefucking is too good a match to pass up. I was tempted to put Swann over Ibushi for the holy poo poo upset of the tournament and I might still go back and edit after thinking about it for awhile. Ibushi is obviously an odds on favorite to be in the finals, but he is also unpredictable as poo poo with his wrestling career and I could see that combining with his lack of English skills to scare off WWE from thrusting him into the finals. Swann would get NXT some representation as a premier world brand and his backstory is tailor made for a Cinderella story. On the other hand, if you have the chance to book Ibushi/ZSJ, you do it.

Ibushi vs. ZSJ is just too good to pass up, yeah. It only comes down to if WWE is going to allow a non-WWE guy to win their tournament. As far as we've heard, the only person getting signed for sure after/during CWC is Taijiri and there's no way in hell he's winning. If they're going to have a WWE guy win, I think Swann will take it. NXT is going to lose a lot of talent to the brand split, and there's no better way to make a new top NXT guy than to have them win a big tournament like this. If they're fine letting an outsider win, we have a 90% chance of getting ZSJ vs. Ibushi. They could also sign one or both of them during the tournament, and I doubt they would announce it until after CWC because announcing a new talent getting signed to WWE is as close as you can get to spoiling the finish to the tournament.

I can't wait for this, I hope they make some cool giant invitational tournament a thing every year. Also on board the "Sabre Jr wins" train but I'd love to see guys like Ciampa and Kendrick and Swann put on some great shows.

I really liked how they openly talked about not being stereotypes, but still wanting to represent their culture in the way that Eddie Guerrero did. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop on this thing because it seems so....non-lovely for a WWE product. That song is good as hell and was really popular here in Canada and the UK. I know they've been more open about this recently, especially on Network exclusives, but I'm so amazed at how entirely outside the "WWE bubble" this tourney, or at least Bracketology, is. Hearing things like "oh, he was the Dragon Gate champion for 700 days, you know he's good", "I wrestled him in NOAH a while back", or even "I called a lot of his matches when I worked for New Japan" was so unusual for an official WWE show.

I got to wonder what exactly WWE will do with the CWC when it comes down to the last few matches. Will they let the last few go long to fill out the shows or would they do non-tournament matches with the eliminated dudes? Seeing as this is supposed to run through SummerSlam I also wonder if they could do a CWC showcase at TakeOver Brooklyn.

And I know we talked about it in a previous thread for its comedy value, but it's even kinda heartwarming to hear them discuss stuff like Perkins putting on a mask and wrestling at 13 just for that sense of how unsanitized, unfiltered and different from WWE the background of a lot of these guys are. There is real character here beyond the gimmicks, as well as history (THE Brian Kendrick being a prime example).

I was hoping for more of a World Cup type deal, give these unknowns a little more exposure than a probable one and done.
