It's not just GBS that went downhill. You used to get banned/probated for spamming catch phrases or memes or stuff like "lol git gud." Now it's the pinnacle of forum comedy.

I have been around in some form since 2004 and I cannot recall a single time when those rules were stringently enforced as anything other than a means to get rid of shitposters and/or people the mods really didn't like.
