Looks like T-Mobile broke something cause I can't text anymore. Of course after uninstalling BASICALLY EVERYTHING to try to see what I hosed up the T-Mobile app won't load and people are reporting issues the past hour. Great.

Cross posting from https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3026166&pagenumber=265#lastpost So I've been on the TMob goon plan for a while but I'm getting bored topping up the measly 100 minutes talk when I inevitably go over (why does the US count incoming calls as my talk time? And voicemail?). I see TMob is doing a $40/unlimited talk/ unlimited txt/3GB LTE) which I'm thinking to switch from my $30/100minutes/unlimited txt/5GB LTE. Looks like the Goon Plan has been discontinued? What's the catch with the $40? Is the Goon Plan something I want to hold on to for reasons?

IOwnCalculus posted:Looks like it's still here to me: http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/other-prepaid-plans Oh, indeed it is. I remember it being a massive pain to shift my original TMob number onto the Goon Plan as it was only for new numbers or transfer from other carriers so I had to go though Google Voice (or whatever it was called back then). This is the biggest barrier to me switching tbh - I'd switch to the $40 plan right now if I could easily switch back. Ho hum.

Anyone else having issues with data on their Nexus 6 today? Looks like it may be down for that phone only. Something to do with switching between HSPA and LTE? I dropped mine to 3g and seems to hold for now. Multiple people reporting the same thing on reddit.

The rep at my t-mobile store screwed something up, or somehow my account was screwed up to begin with. I converted to postpaid after more than a year of on-time prepaid payments today, because I want that sweet Smartphone Equality. The box in the My T-Mobile account screen said I was eligible, so I did the conversion. Well, turns out I'm stuck with a huge down payment, and now I have a new account that doesn't have any payment history at all. I contacted T-Force, and hopefully they can resolve this. e: problem solved! I qualify for minimum pricing only and specifically for JUMP! On Demand, not for any other EIP options. I'll go to the store tomorrow and do the thing. SymmetryrtemmyS fucked around with this message at 05:09 on Aug 4, 2016 |

Meydey posted:Anyone else having issues with data on their Nexus 6 today? Looks like it may be down for that phone only. Ah, I see someone already responded, but yeah, this is definitely a thing. Appears to be an issue with the July security update specific to the Nexus 6 that kills your data connection when the GPS is accessed. (Possibly not every time the GPS is accessed.) It's not exclusive to T Mobile (though they're the only U.S. carrier that I know of that's affected). Right now the available solutions appear to be (a) Living with it, (b) rolling back to the June update (something something unlocked bootloader something is all I know about how to do that), or (c) opting into the Android N beta (which is what I've done, and so far no issues). Apparently some people have had some success with disabling Google Connectivity Services, but I've no idea if that's reliable, or if it would have bad side effects or what.

So earlier in the week T Mobile told me it was an issue on their end and gave me a $20 statement credit for the ongoing issue. They said they had a fix in place for Friday (yesterday). My Fiancé called them up last night just to see what's up with the fix, and was told it's actually an issue with Nexus devices, and to contact Google. I think something is pulling my leg....

I have the $30 t-mobile pre-paid plan and I decided recently to switch over to google project fi. I started the number porting process on Aug 2., and it just sat there "processing" for days until I called project fi support on Aug 5. The first support person recommended to cancel and retry the porting process, and that she had to call in a specialist to perform the cancellation. So 7hrs later some other support guy, (not a specialist apparently) called and told me he was gonna check with his specialist on whether canceling the port was the best idea, then a couple more hours later responds in email saying that after speaking with their specialist, they had escalated it to their engineers. I checked my phone this morning and the project fi app said the transfer had been canceled. I try to restart the number porting process from the project fi app and it tells me "That number is ineligible". So I call google up again, and they say they've spoken with t-mobile and the problem is on t-mobile's side and t-mobile had escalated to their specialist who was working on "recovering the number" and to call google back if I don't hear from them by TUESDAY Aug 9th. Now, the thing is, my t-mobile prepaid plan payment is due tomorrow. I actually have $27.50 balance still in the account, which is just not quite enough, and t-mobile has informed me that they will be keeping that non-refundable money. I had already written that off, but now this porting process has been drawn out so long that I'm going to have to pay for another month to have google's phone support call me. Also apparently even though I'd only need to 2.50 additional balance, I can only add a minimum of $10. I really would rather not award their colossal incompetence with more money, simply on principle. Should I just give in and pay $10 on the chance that maybe it helps me not lose this number that I've had for 15yrs or so? A t-mobile txt says I have until 12:01AM tomorrow to refill the plan. Dialing #686# on the t-mobile phone displays the phone number, which is still the number I'm porting, so at least that number hasn't been completely "lost" yet (how the gently caress does any of this even happen?). Have these fuckers ever heard of an atomic transaction? Also I went through pretty much the exact same process when I ported this number *to* t-mobile. They almost lost my number and tried to give me a different one, and I was without a phone for almost 2 weeks iirc. My family wasn't sure if i was dead. My phone number is cursed. peepsalot fucked around with this message at 22:40 on Aug 6, 2016 |

Probably too late to help you, but: if you live near civilization, this is a big part of what makes carrier-owned service worth using. Retail corporate locations can take cash, credit, debit, whatever. Great for paying your bill if you're switching cards/banks/identities, or if your online account has issues. Many storefronts even have an ATM-style machine in the corner, for people who are just topping up (or don't have questions for employees and want to skip any lines). I've never used one, but the ones I've seen had signs posted that they could take cash payments.

If I buy a used T-Mo iPhone that is fully paid off, can I request an unlock? T-Mo's unlocking website seems to imply that the answer is no (can only be requested by original purchaser/financier), but that seems like BS.

Someone claiming to be tmobile called a newly activated line on my plan (activated yesterday evening) to say thank you (they had my name) and said to tell me the new line wasn't on easypay but I can add it anytime I like. My wife handled the call and just said okay and hung up. I called tmobile and they say it wasn't them, suggested it was a phishing scam, and offered to change the number. But how could someone have gotten all that information that quickly and if it was a phishing scam why didn't they ask for any personal information. According to my wife they just said to pass the information along to me.

No $15 Lyft credit this week, which is sad. Instead we get a gift card to an overpriced fashion website, which is even sadder. People with Gilt money don't even know what $15 looks like, T-mo, and people without Gilt money will never buy $40 underwear, even if they're $25. Who is this promotion for?
