Ugh, this is so frustrating. I want a 24" 1080p IPS, 1ms or really really low response time, with 60 or 144Hz refresh rate. Does this not exist? e: Weird I just found this. What you are looking for does not exist in a 24" ips format. Apparently everyone who ordered a refurb U2715h ended up with a U2717D instead, plus no real warranty and a decent chance of getting a monitor that someone had sent back for dead pixels made me pretty leery. I got no dead pixels and am pretty happy with my purchase both quality/value-wise.

You can get a 1080p LG IPS display (23MP68VQ) at 75hz & 5ms with a Freesync range of 40~75, which means no LFC, but even with an RX480 you're not going to go below 40 fps at this resolution. Once thing I've heard is that there is slight ghosting.

Is the Dell s2716dgr not so great? I was just at Best Buy and saw that it was on sale for 200 dollars off ($450 vs $650) and it hits my preferences of being a 144hz g-sync monitor. I'd consider it for that price point, but I am always skeptical whenever something is on sale for that much money off.

I got an Asus MG248Q, if anyone is curious about it - 144hz 24" 1080p TN, supports Freesync/Adaptivesync. It's an updated VG248QE (or whatever the really popular one was). I have it sitting next to an older, smaller IPS and while the image is definitely worse, it's not that bad. 144hz is amazing, though, even for just scrolling webpages and moving windows around. I mainly went with it due to price, functional and low-key bezel+stand, and that my card is an R9 380 so I would have to drop almost 1k for a good 1440p IPS setup and I don't care that much.

Just save your pennies for the larger monitor. It'll take longer but it'll be worth it. I think I am going to do that for a sweet 144mHz gaming. Was gonna hit up 1440 at 27" but 60mHz but I think the extra bit is worth it. First buying a 1070 next week.

Mine was dying and I still did that. Monitors are supposed to take 20 minutes to stop strobing the backlight, right? I don't agree on the speed of said monitor. Depending on how you look at the units, mHz would be millihertz, which would be stupidly slow.

sorry for this type of question, but since the OP is pretty out of date.... I'm building a new gaming PC and think it's time to finally upgrade from 6+ year old set of 24" asus monitors. New graphics card will be in the range of RX-480 / GTX 1070 (haven't decided yet). I can probably swing $500-600 towards new displays. I can do one of two things: drop all my budget on a single monitor and keep one of the old ones to use as a side display, or spend less and get two new monitors instead. I'm not at all on top of the latest display trends -- I just want to play Witcher 3 and have it look really pretty. What should I be considering in how to proceed (ie are there benefits to having two newer monitors/potential problems with mixing and matching display types?) and what does the thread generally recommend at each price point (1x~$600 or 2x~$300)?

I decided to play the lottery and bought a crossover Korean monitor that has an AUO 1440p ips 144hz panel for about $450. The black levels are great, very minimal bleed, but I had a stuck pixel near the middle of the screen. It's mostly gone away though, and I can barely notice it. I am a bit disappointed that >60 hz is barely noticable though. I guess I fell for the hype...

Yep. First thing I checked was the ufo test. The 30/60 difference is stark for the ufos but 60/144 is nowhere near as big.
