I was hanging out with a friend who has a wife and a kid who was four or so at the time. We wanted to go to some store but he was concerned that if we went with the kid without his wife people would think we were gay. I convinced him to go and it turned out lots of people thought we made a lovely family. I hope things turn around for your buddy. Caught my first ten minutes of SU on the ol' cartoon network today, it seemed really weak and feeble. It seemed like having a very wimpy mind and body would be a prerequisite for enjoying the show. I would rate it as being sissier than My Little Pony Friendship Is MAgic. I mean I get that teaching children "Just because someone is different doesn't mean they're bad" in a children's cartoon is a good thing. But adults who should already have learned that lesson turning that cartoon into an overly sexualized fetish cult is pretty goddamn gross, and that's before they show up to wallow in it.

Usually harem anime is about a guy going around solving problems for a bunch of girls and being rewarded by them lusting over him. Sometimes the girls have magical powers. Steven Universe is basically that but it does away with the reward, makes the problems more about being emotionally broken and the women all significantly older and more lesbian than the main protagonist.
