It's the year 2000, and for five years the armies of the world have fought back and forth across Europe. Three years ago the missiles started flying. Most countries were hit hard in the nuclear exchange, but no one had a decisive advantage, and the war went on. Tanks began breaking down and the supply of spare parts gradually dwindled to zero. The sophisticated artillery weapons have shot off all of their ammo, and no one is capable of producing any more. Divisions which started with 20,000 men are lucky to put 2,000 in the field. But the war goes on. You are part of the remnants of the leading U.S. division of NATO's last drive into Central Poland. There isn't much in the way of organized military forces left on either side, and the local warlords, militia, and murderous bands of marauding deserters rule the countryside. Your division has been overrun, and your group is hundreds of kilometers from the nearest friendlies. The last message from division headquarters reads : GOOD LUCK. YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN.

So I would love to run a play-by-post game of T2K first edition, but I have no idea if anyone besides me would want to play this old game. Twilight 2000 has a heavy focus on realism and survival. Bullets are lethal, and wounds can get infected, which can be a large burden in a world where antibiotics are worth their weight in gold. Gasoline is nearly totally depleted, and most people are running ethanol/methanol in their converted alcohol burning engines. Firing your weapon usually means looking for the spent casings afterwards, to trade or reload. But survival isn't the end goal, that's up to the players. Will they try to link back up with friendly forces and go back to military life or will they try to make a new life for themselves in post apocalyptic Poland? If the players are all American, will they want to go home and see what's left? It's all possible.

If you've never heard of this game and don't want to drop $$$ for the rulebook don't let that stop you from trying it out, the system is easy enough to explain and I can assist everyone with character creation. I'm also going to homebrew some rules to make gameplay more smooth in the PbP format, and other minor things. Here's the Drive Thru RPG page, check out the descriptions of the other source-books to see if they interest you. I've had all of them for a long while and for the most part they're all great.

I haven't played Twilight 2000 more than a handful of times, and that back in the mid-90s, but hell, could be interesting to try it again.

Interest post. I haven't played Twilight 2000, but the setting is right up my alley, and I'm itching to play a play-by-post game (as opposed to one with a lot more faster moving Discord, Skype, IM, whatever-the-kids-are-using-these-days comms [not that those aren't good, I just don't have the time and the logistics are harder to manage]).

Willing to buy PDFs for this no problem.

How does this differ from v2.2?

I think a fair bit is different. Character creation is much simpler (None of that 4 year periods/contact building stuff), almost every roll is resolved with a percentage d100, and the story of how the Twilight War started was revised.

I'm going to get the ball rolling and follow up on helping out anyone without access to the rules. Here's some scans of the player resources, this should be all you need to create a character. If you have any questions feel free to contact me or ask here and we'll get it sorted out. One thing worth noting is that when buying skills it costs one point up to level 50, then two points per level afterwards. For example it would cost 50 points to raise a skill to 50, 60 points to raise a skill to 55, 100 points to raise a skill to 75, etc.

For those curious some of my homebrew rules will include removing "hesitation" and replacing it with a sort of initiative system for the sake of smoother PbP gameplay. I will also be limiting the starting resources of the players as I always thought it was a little ludicrous how much wealth the game assumed the players had as opposed to literally anyone else.

I mean, one player can theoretically start out with the resources needed to defend, feed, and equip a small village. I'm sorry if that appeals to more of you, but I'd like the beginning of the campaign to be a little tougher than that :smuggo:

The new rate is 250xTIME, or 500xTIME if you're an officer.

Edit : Also please note that there are no useless skills, if you want to make a farming civil engineer with a background in interrogation you'll still be a very useful member of the party.

"Amateurs study strategy, professionals study logistics." These days, soldiers spend most of their time farming, so it's surprising that a thief is in the Special Forces.
Bright, multilingual, and with lots of experience dodging MPs, Bryce started the Last War spying and sabotaging the enemy. As the war dragged on and the fighting petered out, his focus shifted towards keeping the 5th Army supplied through theft and looting.

So when the message came through - "Good luck - You're on your own." - he was already stocking up on merchandise.

It's World War III - if he doesn't end up facedown in a ditch he's going to get absolutely stinking rich!

Let's see what we can do here. It's been forever and I remember virtually nothing of the system, so I'm probably gonna screw this up, but c'est la vie, no?

I'm gonna make a guy named Ezekiel "Zeke" White, hailing from the backwoods of Appalachia.

Attribute Rolls: 6#4d6-4 5 5 10 16 9 7 god those are some lovely rolls

FIT 9
AGL 5
CON 10
STA 16
INT 7
EDU 5
TOT 52

Dumb as a post, slow, oddly doughy, but he can work for daaaaaaayyyyyyyys.

STR 13 (do I round up or down? I rounded up)

Hit Capacity:
Head 10
Chest 39
All Others 26

Throw Range 26
Weight 104
Load 36

Military Experience Base: (120-TOT)/7 = 9.714, round to 10
Combat Time and Rads: 2#10d6 41 32
41 months in combat (wow!), 32 rads

Coolness Under Fire: 10-1d6-TIME/10 = 10-(http://orokos.com/roll/423459: 1d6 3)-4 = 3

Age: (Time/12)+EDU+8+(N)d6
N is 1. Time/12 is 3.416, rounds to 3. So: 3+5+8+(http://orokos.com/roll/423460: 1d6 2) = 18

(an 18 year old who's seen 41 months of combat. Well, he's a big boy, he probably lied about his age to join the service)

Army and Nationality: Player's Choice, eh? Let's go with U.S. Army, as I get a real "Ah learned ta shoot down on' pappy's farm" vibe here

Native Languages: I guess I'll say 1-10 for Spanish, 11-12 German, 13-14 Italian, 15 Polish, 16 Yiddish, 17-100 English. Languages: 1d100 65 English it is!

Officer: yes if INT (7) + EDU (5) is greater than or equal to 2d6+16. This would be literally impossible, so I won't roll. Enlisted man it is.

Rank Number: http://orokos.com/roll/423463: 1d6 2 gives an N of -1, so that totals out to 3.

Rank: Sergeant. "Don' call me sir, boy, ah work f'r a livin'"

Specialty: I'm assuming the way it works is 'pick a specialty and see if you qualify with a 2d6 roll? I'm not sure. Anyways, I rolled http://orokos.com/roll/423465: 2d6 8 which could qualify me for dang near anything but if I'm getting a choice I'm grabbing Infantryman because why pick an MOS that requires thinking when I could just make a career out of 'go where you're told and shoot things'? So the Specialty Benefits will be 20 points in each of Combat Rifleman and Heavy Weapons.

I will pick out skills and kit once someone's had a chance to look at this and tell me whether or not I screwed anything up. EDIT: It occurs to me that I'm not sure if I was supposed to assign my stat rolls or simply apply them in the rolled order; I did the former. Hopefully that's forgiveable because I kinda like the notion of playing the big dumb guy.

Here's the equipment price list since I forgot it in the other album. Please note every item has (X/X) next to it, this represents item rarity. The left value is for Western player characters, the right value is for Eastern PCs. If your value is R for "rare" then you can't start with it. You also cannot buy any vehicles or fuel.

I think it's flexible enough to fit in with other characters - got to make sure you stay supplied no matter where you're going.

I'm picking out my skills to focus on him being able to steal gear and find opportunities to sell it, with like, language and interrogation or something, forgery and disguise for big thefts, etc. I didn't see any kind of haggling skill - down to being able to talk it out?
I see a doctor has applied - great no matter what we're doing. Do we have anyone good at mechanics or gunsmithing, to make sure our merchandise survived falling off a truck? If not, that'd make a decent first quest - find and recruit a mechanic/gunsmith and deal with whatever (hilarious) issues they've got.

I am mediocre at fixing things! :v: Also, you can't start with skills higher than 80 unless they're native languages.

I thought PST was everyone's native language? Certainly makes you way more persuasive!
Yeah, I edited it down. On the bright side it lets me diversify a bit. Into INT, which reminds me I need to leave Resources available to buy a .38 special revolver and a bullet.

Alright, I'm good to go.
The only change I'm thinking about making is going back and changing the merch so I've got more of a haphazard mishmash of weapons, bost NATO and Pact. Not really that important, since they're for sale instead of use, but it kinda represents the complete breakdown in logistics.

Game's up obviously, if your character isn't in the vehicle by the time others have begun then you'll be picked up later by the crew that's ready. Have fun!

Nah, PinheadSlim houseruled the starting monies:

PinheadSlim posted:

I will also be limiting the starting resources of the players as I always thought it was a little ludicrous how much wealth the game assumed the players had as opposed to literally anyone else.

I mean, one player can theoretically start out with the resources needed to defend, feed, and equip a small village. I'm sorry if that appeals to more of you, but I'd like the beginning of the campaign to be a little tougher than that :smuggo:

The new rate is 250xTIME, or 500xTIME if you're an officer.

So 41 months*250 is 10250, which is still a hell of a a lot. Buy all the guns man.

Oh good, only 5086 left to spend. :shepspends:

Current plan is "some more guns, another horse and tack, maybe a mule" but I'm still gonna give it a little bit for more feedback, I think.

Also, if it's not entirely obvious, Zeke is built to survive in the woods. Hunting, fishing, farming, bows. The life of a caveman is really not going to bother him. This is my attempt to balance out the fact that he probably reads at a fourth-grade level and speaks exactly zero local languages. :v:

Any chance Leblanc found some Soviet supply dumps while he was scouting for the 5th? Or set up on his own for NATO's planned push, like by theft or using forgery to mess with Soviets orders? Does he know any bandits partisans in that area?

I like it, it's like all the skills he acquired just from growing up in a rural area and playing outside.

As for money, I recommend buying some anti-tank weapons. Not that I'm planning anything involving a lot of tanks it's just the kind of thing you'll really want when you need it.

PbP games need the occasional kick in the rear end, in my experience; especially if they fall off the first page of someone's bookmarked threads it can be hard to keep momentum. Thus, the occasional "hey is everyone still around" post helps, I find.

Sorry, busy over the weekend.

OOC, do you guys have a vote on what to do? As much as I lean towards trying to sneak by because the idea of picking a fight in a city swarming with Soviets sounds crazy, my dude is awfully greedy.
Besides, it's something to do.

Are there any rules for suppressors in this version?
