the Soldiers game I ran was a variant of a traditional Soldiers game, with fantasy RPG elements on top. Credit goes to Tao for originating the format. traditional soldiers games have far fewer "abilities" (if any) and iirc don't distinguish between things like range vs. melee, or have HP mechanics, or, well honestly I can't even remember how battles were done or why they mattered. Reskimming the end of Soldiers 2 (where I played Caliph al-Ravin and conquered the infidel Varinn) doesn't help. Being the Leader (let's be gender inclusive) is stressful if you: A) actually want to win, and B) have people being douches to you in your thread for no reason (Dominoes...). It's a problem with being a lowercase-l leader too. I am not meant for leadership is the conclusion, I am just too prone to being a petty tyrant. as an aside, a recurring problem with Soldiers games is the tendency to kill off players so quickly that towns win less by actually winning and more because they weren't the first to lose. I inadequately overcompensated for that tendency in my game, and I hope Kashuno balances it properly for his.
