That was literally the first time the US had seen the unblockable setup. People literally thought that Justin was going to have a free win because "why would he let Chun build meter". That Evo showed the US just how little they actually knew about 3S.

no people knew its just that justin was used to playing only people way worse than him. as any third strike mystic will tell you, "respect" as a concept in 3s is very powerful

heres archived forum posts from 2001 talking about the dreamcast version and how it specifically removes urien unblockables. the knowledge was definitely there.

It's worse than SF4 and MKX, it's like they picked some of the things I liked the least about recent fighting games and shoved them together in an ugly package. But to each man its own.

I like the combo system and it has insane character variety. I'm not going to pretend like I want to get into it as a competitive game, though.
