SONIC BOOM!!!

Absolutely. Freedom Planet has more Rocket Knight Adventures, Dynamite Headdy and Ristar DNA in it than Sonic.

GOTTA GO FIST
Re: Sonic Rush I liked that game quite a bit. I remember having sweaty palms trying to do the last special stage to get the final Chaos Emerald. The boost mechanic was fun to me. There were some stages with bad level design, but I can't remember them off the top of my head. What I remember not liking most was just the bottomless pits. One thing I quite enjoy about modern Sonic games now that they all have the boost mechanic is that they have something to warn you when bottomless pits are ahead. My reaction time is good, but drat.

One of the things that was proposed for the remake of CD was a Secret Ending final boss after you got all the Time Stones that apparently would've involved fighting back and forth in time. Sega didn't approve it since it was the first remake and they hadn't proven themselves yet. You can unlock the concept art of it (and their planned extra desert level) though.

That sounds like a really cool concept, but I have no idea how he would've implemented it with the little time travel signposts.

No posts, you could time travel whenever you wanted (since you had all the stones), and it would be an immediate shift between timezones without the transition/loading screen, just the level changing around you.

I finished Sonic 4 - Episode 1.

Positives:
  • In Casino Street Zone, Sonic running on the deck of cards and then the cards flying through the air on them was a cool concept
  • Some of the music in the Lost Labyrinth Zone didn't make me want to drive a pen into my eardrum
  • It was short enough that although I can't get the time I spent playing it back, I don't feel its loss keenly.

Negatives:
  • Everything else. Goddamn.

I hope y'all in this thread are aware that the coolest Sonic fangame is literally a Doom 2 mod

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUlH110zCG4

Although if you want to check it out for yourself be aware that it's really, stupidly, hard. The final level has megaman vanishing blocks for god's sake, in vanishingly tiny size, while you're controlling an extremely fast and slippery Sonic in 3D. This speedrunner is making it look way too easy.

SRB2 is so good.

SRB2 is really cool but keep in mind it's also blatantly unfinished. I mean, they just now figured out how to put slopes in the thing. And the gap in level design quality between the levels that were made in 1998 and the ones made in 2014 is pretty blatant, the new levels are quite good while the oldest ones really show their age.

Amppelix
Aug 6, 2010

Actually, in the latest build the only level that hasn't been updated somewhere in the latest decade is the very first one, which is supposed to be simple anyway.

I think it's quite finished, really. Sure, there's no slopes in the levels, but who cares? It's not like the game design suffers from it. Stairs work fine for elevation changes, and the levels are more focused on racetrack-like curves than slopes and momentum anyway.

Greenflower Act 1 is way too simple even by starting level standards, it's just a straight 30-second jog. Also it's ugly.
Castle Eggman 1 is still pretty bad, and the developers have said as much.
Arid Canyon Act 1 is still blatantly missing stuff and there's no act 2 or 3
Red Volcano has only 1 act
Egg Rock is a gigantic difficulty spike to a completely unreasonable degree, partly because there's supposed to be more zones before it.
The SRB1 remake hasn't been purged from the game's code yet

Camera could use a little work, especially in zoom tubes. IMO they should really be viewed side-on. And going up stairs *sucks* cause you jerk up each step, it's a bit nauseating.

Gotta admit, for all the missteps Sega has had with gameplay/storywriting, they have an almost unreasonably good track record on the music. Not every song is amazing naturally, but I can't think of a sonic game I've played or heard that didn't have at least 2-3 songs that were fantastic. And hell, even the bad ones are rarely if ever annoying bad, just merely ok.

I think pretty much all SEGA products generally have above average sound/music. Sonic All Star Racing Transformed's music is unbelievable.

Also I know the internet stream was an abortion but the live video I've heard from the Sonic party itself sounded amazing (like sound stage set up, etc). I'm still completely :swoon: with the Sonic Mania reveal trailer music like a month later.
