Its not like online quests and village quests are the same or anything! you still have to unlock the village quests solo. So why doesn't everybody get credit for online? Its nonsense.

You only have to do the urgents and the request quests individually, which only make up maybe 5% of the online quests. For any ordinary online quest (even if it's a key quest working towards an urgent) it doesn't matter who starts it.

Simple explanation from a design perspective it is supposed to be "your" test. Whether you solve it solo with a rare 1 starting weapon, no items, and no armor, or you bring 3 HR999 hunters decked out in Deviant gear, you figured out a way to finish the test and you get to hunt tougher stuff.

I don't really think it works out quite so well in practice, but it's not like it really causes any problems. Sure it slows people down a bit, but thinking about it more as your personal certification helps defer the frustration from the design, on to the douche bags that bailed on you, and finally to yourself for not being able to keep a group together long enough for your Urgent.

If 'Git gud' isn't an option, get a friend. One is enough. Random pubs are often a liability anyway. SA Discord is apparently really helpful. I haven't even had the chance to get online with Gens yet, but each game that passes the community gets bigger, and there's usually one or two more diehards.

See I don't mind redoing the online urgents for everyone in the group I play with because it usually means a new monster and fighting the monster repeatedly means more parts for new gear.

I did the plesioth one solo though. Caught myself a big goddamn fish since the extra supplies gave me a trap.

I don't know why I didn't really care when it ever got dropped - I never even noticed until Gens. The thing about having requests done by owner is that it gives people reasons to keep posting those quests, giving other people chances to go kill those monsters. It can sometimes be a real problem finding rooms to kill real unpopular poo poo without outside factors like requests.

That said some of the requests can be kinda silly. The triple Rajang room can be brutal.

Leave it to me
I thought the drop rates were just increasing with time as a result of feedback, rare mats are now usually around 4%+ mark? MHF had 1-2% drop rate for rates stuff, iirc? I logged 800 hours in that game and only ever saw a single rathalos plate. Comparatively swam in both rubies, but plates were like pixie dust.

Also I find it really hard to replay older MH games because of this stuff, along with QoL improvements, new weapons and features. Imagine life without decorations and talismans.

Do you think they will be keeping the weapon styles moving forward? I would love to see them update old monsters with anti-air moves. Guys like gammoth and kirin should be a lot harder, but all their attacks get avoided without even trying due to me always being in the air.

Maybe they should just reduce the invuln on jumps because I dont think jumping at them when they charge should be the right move unless im bushido

Ah yeah, I misremembered according to this:

quote:

A lot of people—including some in my hunting party—feel like the drop rates for items in 4U are more generous than the Japanese release and previous games as well. Can you confirm if this is true, and what sort of changes you’ve made? Rare drops seem a little less frustrating to acquire than in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, and in a good way.

Kaname Fujioka, executive director: We did not make any adjustments related to item drops such as drop rates from MH4G (Japanese sku) to MH4U (Western sku).  However every time we develop a new title, we usually implement various changes and additions to the previous title’s game mechanics such as reward systems and armors (Charm, Relic, etc.) such as for MH4U in comparison to ones from MH3U.  Based on the changes and additions that we have made, we also did adjust drop rate for items

To be clear it wasn't just limited to being naked. It was an innate but hidden +50 Def.

Kind of an interesting change since the affect is pretty organic. Had a fairly profound impact early in the game, where most players in the west were still getting used to the series, but didn't provide much benefit late game where the relative DEF increase was proportionally much lower.

I don't think it was necessary, but if it helped 'grab' more new players so there is a healthy core audience to grow from, I didn't mind it. Honestly - it seems a lot less of a 'crutch' than BuJaBuJaBu is having on Generations. I pretty much steam rolled the Village quests with that 20%+ effective damage bonus and show no signs of slowing down. 3U village quests could still piss me off. Absolutely nothing has frustrated me this time. Not even yian garuga

Yeah seriously. I'm at the point (again, having already done this in MHX) where my HR Shagaru armour for gunning needs FIVE Phosgems for the final upgrades. Not to mention the three more I'll need for the LBG, HBG and Bow.

Having said that I love this armour. Normal Up, Peak Performance, and Rationer out of the box with tons of slots. With decent talismans you can get all kinds of bow and bowgun setups going really easily.

But yeah please bring back the old armour upgrade system Capcom

Holy poo poo. I didn't mind the spending some resources to get things upgraded. I never liked the whole armor spheres thing because they couldn't really be targeted, where a couple of monster parts isn't too bad and has you doing what the game is all about - hunting monsters.

but just holy poo poo. Can anyone confirm if that is just like the absolute final upgrade for the armor, because if we're only talking about 20 something DEF total that's not 'too bad'. Obnoxious, but that little last something to work toward for an almost completely irrelevant gain.

If it gates another sphere upgrade and it is somewhere around 50+ Def yeah, nah. That can definitely get completely hosed.

It's the final upgrade for each piece, defence goes from 57 to 65. So you go from 285 total defence to 325 with your five Phosgems. It sucks but the armour is pretty capable of standing up to endgame stuff at that level.

A bit more def than I was hoping, but if things are balanced around the penultimate upgrades then I it sounds OK. Final upgrades are there for individuals who are lucky/persistent, but otherwise not required. Lower initial barrier to entry and ideally you get more people trying unique/specialized gear sets. It was always frustrating how much trouble I would sometimes go to in crafting very particular sets for highly specific target/tasks, only to have the results not really merit the bother.

e:also, it being more difficult to 'cap' set def does sort of weight skills a little differently. Things that immobilize/mitigate monsters becomes a tiny bit more important than it otherwise would be, so even in that regard there is slightly more motivation to try sets other than the cookie cutters.

So sure, frustrating to look at a gear set and see it 'incomplete', but yeah if it's only the final upgrade I am OK with rare drops as requirements. Keeps those "complete" sets as something of a show piece for those who care - lets me more easily make that Nibelsnarf set for speed eating because reasons.
