They're both slow and have distorted guitars that are tuned down, but I don't see Earth 2 as belonging in the same genre as Candlemass, or even close, really. Did early Earth influence stuff that came after that was definitely doom metal? For sure, but I think it's a stretch to say that it's doom metal itself.

Earth 2 is doom riffs slowed down and repeated, it's obviously different to normal doom but that's kinda the whole point.

new 16 sounds pretty good, wasn't a fan of their last album but the old stuff is some of my favourite stuff ever.

Was pretty stoked to see Boris in Madison but they cancelled due to illness. poo poo.

Still saw Droids Attack and Earth (Shitstorm was listed but no-shows as well). Cool stuff, but I'd just seen Earth here last September.

I smoked a few people up at that show and one of the kids passed the gently caress out like 10 minutes into Earth's set, fell right into me. Poor guy missed a great show.

Saw Baroness and Pallbearer last night. Great show, despite the fact that Baroness didn't even bother with Red or Blue until the very end. The crowd was nuts, and they played the longest set of the tour so far (three-song encore!). Pallbearer are playing a super heavy new song on this tour.

Also got to meet John for a sec at a Reckless Records pop-up shop and picked up a sweet silkscreen print that he made. He's an extremely nice dude, unsurprisingly.

I'm a fan of Windhand and I liked them live but it's easy to see why they're always going to fit more as an opening act for a band like Sleep

Same deal in DC. Windhand is literally down the street from me but I've seen them a couple of times (once in a tiny downstairs space where they killed and once opening for Sleep where they were just fine). I figure I'll make the trek to Red Fang, because they are ridiculously high energy and tight live.

What's some other feelgood doom like Kadavar that I can play around normal people aka non doom/metal lovers?

I usually stick to the scarier stuff but it's nice to have some options at work when we're taking turns playing music. Kadavar had fun riffs, clean production, and was fast enough that nobody complained.

Cathedral, Goatsnake, Melvins, maybe High on Fire, some Neurosis, obviously Black Sabbath. Possibly the lighter side of Boris. Depending on your work stuff from the stoner end of the spectrum like Weedeater or Bongzilla might work too. My mum likes Om.

e: Until I got a car I had this problem a lot riding shotgun on longer journeys. The driver would be like "just put some music on from your phone" and I'd have to look through trying to find stuff that wouldn't sound like poo poo on car speakers and the rest of the car would actually enjoy. For a while I had a go-to playlist called "non-threatening tunes" of a few hundred songs that I like but are inoffensive enough that pretty much everyone can get on with them.

What the hell, would you honestly describe anything by Neurosis "feelgood"? Or High on Fire? Are you trying to scare his friends on purpose?

heh I just had to try to find music to play on long car rides with a friend who likes stuff like Disturbed, Korn, etc but not really into metal... looking through my library now, this is some of the stuff I chose to try to expand his horizons:

Wo Fat
Orange Goblin
Mondo Drag
Egypt
Year of the Goat (sorta like Ghost)
Valkyrie
Mountain of Wizard
The Sword
Alabama Thunderpussy
Baroness
Black Pyramid
Black Rainbows
Black Magic Darkness
Crypt Sermon
Down - NOLA
Elder
Freedom Hawk
Fu Manchu
Graveyard
Jess and the Ancient Ones
Khemmis
Kvelertak
Kyng
Mastodon - Once More Round the Sun
Royal Thunder

It's badass yeah, but feelgood? I dunno, maybe we've got a different view of what the poster actually wanted. I though it was like, heavy but upbeat riffs, clean vox and nothing too "metal" or aggressive really.

Kadavar are basically a 70s style rock band with very little doom at all, so go for rock from that era or other retro bands, e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIrZXjTusZU, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZFguaSsDi0, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUJMeyDbYoM

If you want actual metal then probably heavy/doom stuff like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZuCjuuHAhA or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJ7FJmzpwv4
