It's because you want to be appreciated in any endeavor. Whether it be cooking for someone who doesn't know how to cook or loving someone who someone wouldn't normally find attractive. I totally agree with letting people just be themselves and see where things go. It has always weirded me out on a semantic level that they use the term "nice guy". From how they write and what they think they are anything but nice. So much so that the adjective "nice" becomes a synonym for being two-faced, hypocrite, shallow.
