Obviously you'll need to play via flash cart or an emulator for these to work. It's not perfect and some obvious things you still need stylus controls for but it's a much more comfortable way to play the games, especially for weirdos like me that finds handwriting awkward as well.

Anyway to get these working on a modded 3DS?

That's pretty much exactly how it'll be - they said it's possible to avoid seeing story bits if you want to. Or you can even just beeline for the final boss right off the bat.

Excited to see it at the next GDQ, then.

Nintendo could probably do itself some good to make some games here and there that specifically target the part of the audience that have been playing and buying their games for 30 years, while also working to make those game appeal to the younger crowd, rather than the inverse of making games that specifically target a new generation of players that also might appeal to adults.

That's a long sentence.

Saw Symphony of the Goddess last night. I don't recommend it. They didn't even provide a program, you had to wait in line and pay $10. I have never seen a play/symphony/musical/whatever..this sort of thing that did not provide a loving program. Even the ushers were surprised.

As a show, it was okay. A couple tracks were played multiple times in different arrangements. I would have preferred the show be 30 minutes shorter instead. Also, the videos on the screen were often repeated and were basically commercials. In fact, they just showed commercials before the show started.

It seemed very much like a money grab and less like a love letter.

I really like the idea of a Zelda game that lets put off the ending for as long as I want. When there's nothing left to do but go kill Ganon, the game gets far less interesting. I want to spend so much time in BotW just exploring, struggling with the environment, finding villages, etc. Hell, just wanding around stuffing my pockets with food items to experiment with sounds like a good time.

I don't disagree with any particular criticism you made, but just sitting there listening to live orchestral Zelda music was pretty great. I did sometimes close my eyes during repeated video, but that probably just made it better anyway. I'll agree that the presentation was pretty :effort: and there were other tracks I would have loved to have heard, but it was still pretty good. On balance, it was worth my time and money for what it was. YMMV but I wanted to offer a somewhat different perspective.

So I asked in the old WiiU thread when TP was supposed to get fun.

I kind of have the reversal of that question.

When is Skyward Sword supposed to become un-fun?

Because I'm enjoying the hell out of it and I actually dont dislike the motion controls. For what it's worth, the motion controls never gelled in Star Fox for me so it's not like they're something I use often or have a bias towards. But it feels alright here.

Does this game take a huge nose dive that I should be prepared for or what?

I never got the hate for that section. It's a nice, chill send off to the motion plus swimming controls, which, IMO, were the best swimming controls since Majora's. It certainly helped that the whole scenario reminded me very heavily of that one part in Mario Sunshine where the town flooded. I thought it was a lot of fun in play around in that.

yeah basically. it eventually becomes boss refights, escort quests with bad ai, sneaking missions, and collectathons with bad swimming controls. it's like they thought the game was just too fun so they put in a bunch of those things everybody hates.

You're obviously talking about the Song of the Hero section, and while I'll agree that it's by far the worst part of the game (I like how you can fight imprisoned twice in a row of you do the forest first), it's only like an hour of actual gameplay, the worst of which is the stealth mission. I didn't stop enjoying the game at that point, but I did think "boy I hope this part is over soon" and what do you know, it was. Unnecessary padding, but harmless.

It would have been cool if each of those third sections led to a third dungeon for the three areas. A super hard and complex forest dungeon, desert/timeshift dungeon, and fire dungeon. Then it wouldn't feel like padding, it'd feel like the third act of the game, equal to the two acts before it.

So, what do people expect from the inevitable smartphone Zelda game? It seems safe to presume it'll control similarly to the DS games but how are they going change the format to fit the platform? Are people really going to get excited for a piecemeal, service-style Zelda game that's all dungeons or whatever?

I don't think there's going to be a Zelda mobile game for quite awhile, but if it were to come out now? Some kind of dungeon solver similar to Lara Croft Go.

No, if you enjoy the game as it is now you will enjoy it to the end. In my opinion later dungeons get better. The only thing I'd say was disappointing is the final boss.

The final boss was one of that game's better moments. The dungeons are great all around outside the fireshrine which I think is the most forgettable dungeon in the game even though it's fine to play.

It's the overworld sections that suck, outside the desert areas. How many times is the game going to make you scale the loving same mountain the same way

I think 4 times?
First time to earth temple
Hidden realm
Escort quest with the robot
Sneaky version

I hated everything about the stupid mountain section

I think SS was the best Zelda so far. I never read anything about it and forgot about it until this year. The controls were so good that i wish they would keep it for future games. After i beat it i watched a speedrun of it and it was absolutely insane too, with crazy precise motion control.
