My slightly cranky, very mouthy but also incredibly sweet and zen old man Petya. He's a Chartreux and I got him as a tiny kitten 14 years ago because I wanted a big gray zombie cat like Church from Pet Sematary. He hasn't dropped a single dead rat in my bathtub yet, and it turns out the Church in the movie was not even a Chartreux but a British Shorthair, but he's been way more awesome than I'd ever hoped he would be.

Torties always have such mean little faces. My brother and sister-in-law have a tortie -- a few years ago, I took care of her while they were out of the country for almost a year, and that little pip took 3 months to stop hiding in the closet all day. Still in the closet  Out of the closet  Even after she had passed through the closet phase, she wanted to be left alone all day. At night, she was like another cat -- she insisted on sleeping with me and would headbutt my shoulder until I let her under the covers, she let me pet her, she let me pet her belly, she'd purr like she was in hog heaven.....but as soon as I got up in the morning, I was like a stranger to her and she'd have nothing to do with me. Little goober.

It's very unfair that Petsmart sells dog costumes, but not cat costumes. Happily, if you pick the right size, a dog costume will fit a cat. I was sick last weekend and my dog was having none of it. Cohen kept wandering into the room where I had a yet-to-be-unpacked suitcase full of dog stuff, bringing me various treasures in an attempt to get me off my butt. First, it was a bag of treats. Then it was a blanket. Then it was a frisbee (see photo). Then it was a shoe. Subtle, she's not.
