William F Cuckley posted:IIRC she's based out of New York, which aside from California is one of the few places in the US you'd most likely run into nonwhite people at a metal show, and the fact they're pretty dang white (though admittedly nowhere near as white as it was back in the day) is mildly noteworthy. But what if metal appeals to whites in those communities, more than it does to minorities? Why is that a problem in and of itself? Reggaeton appeals mostly to Latin Americans, and nobody is (nor should be) up in arms about it. Edit. poo poo, double post.

I will get that book now, thanks for the suggestion. As for race; it's definitely based on the countries. Gigs in Chile, Brazil and Mexico, for example, aren't the go-to place for the caucasians living there, but instead show a fairly representative sample of the population.

Obviously. And even in the US it's going to be different depending on which part of the country you're in. Latinos for example have been involved with metal in California and to a lesser extent Florida since the beginning.

Now now ladies and gents, it's extremely important that everybody in this fandom behave rightly and be the correct color, else we will never achieve a morally laudable standard of behavior in how we listen to loud bad music about Satan's almighty penis

Everyone in metal is secretly a Nazi. You can identify them by their code phrase "I'm not a Nazi."

I just thought it was pretty funny that a band with swastika tattoos ( whether they are actually nazis or really just into male/female spiritual symbolism and super edgy ) and dubious use of symbolism in general ( I didn't realize the SS symbol was based on the traditional wolf's hook emblem ) was the first band you link to after the bi-monthly Metal Thread race wars. Your angry retort seems to indicate that you didn't realize the irony.

The lyrics to Entranced by the Wolfshook are all about how nazis are retarded and we should just all just, like, be ourselves and all individual and poo poo, man. It's explicitly anti fascist song That said Bölzer sucks

The one saving grace of Noisey/Vice is Dan Ozzi, who writes really good longform stuff (often about Punk, his D4 article is really good) and is funny as hell on twitter.

I think the full Crotchduster quote was recorded in mono into a boombox that was inside a metal trash can. But I was referring mainly to the ludicrous amount of reverb on that song.

What's some music that isn't metal but that you can throw in a playlist of mostly metal and have it not stand out? I'm already thinking of is stuff like Nick Cave or Sopor Aeternus or even Geto Boys. Bleak poo poo. I'm not looking for any genres in particular, just non-metal. Serious answers only, no one say "Ghost."
