"I CAN'T BELIEVE I ATE THE WHOLE THING"
Buglord
With the 30th anniversary of the greatest movie of all time occurring recently, its time for the quarterly Transformers: The Movie (1986) thread. With that in mind, let's mine a few topics related to the movie that haven't been mined yet. For instance

-Why did it not receive Oscar consideration that year, in any category? Winners that year were Out of Africa (ugh), William Hurt (ugh, should've been Judd Nelson), Geraldine Page (should've been Corey Burton), and best Director was Sydney Pollack (*major eyerolll* should've been Nelson Shin)

-Whose performance was better? Robert Stack or Judd Nelson? Both *probably* should've shared an academy award.

-A lot of people say Orson Welles ended his career and life on top, but is this really the case? Some jokesters say Citizen Kane eclipses Transformers, but I'm *pretty sure* they are just trolling.

These are just a few of the queries one can tackle when approaching a discussion of this film, feel free to add your own! I for one wish they had made a shot-for-shot remake of it instead of whatever we got with the Michael Bay films.

It's a good movie, but I could do without the Weird Al Yankovic song in the middle of it.

I was going to vote trash movie designed to sell a new toy line, but I see that isn't an option so I'll just go with greatest movie ever I guess.

my mom and dad were into this movie and one time they had a dinner party with the neighbors and said "oh we rented a movie for us to watch" and it was this film and my mom told me "they were not into it AT ALL!" and the neighbors never talked to them again

Yes! This is definitely the kind of enthusiasm that makes it such a tour de force in cinematic history! I agree it's the great movie ever also!

I haven't watched it in a while but as I recall I love it but also recognize it as kind of a bad movie. They scored an amazing voice cast though.

As a 90's kid I grew up on Beast Wars which still holds up as a legit thoughtful cartoon, better than 99% of all Transformers media, but it's callbacks to the 80s movie are what got me into rad guitar solos and synthesizer music

My mom taped a copy of TF:TM for me a year before I was born so that one day when I was ready, I would get to see Orson Welles convert Megatron into angry spock who fights the guy from Unsolved Mysteries

Never watching this as an adult though because I'm 35 and not a manchild but if they ever got someone competent in to do a giant robot eating planets in the films I might dowload it, maybe, I dunno...
