Hah, I just saw a thing from an interview with a dev that apparently nobody told the Sonic Spinball team that they'd lost the rights to the Sonic 1/2 intro music for further games until literally hours before Spinball was to start being pressed, and then only because someone from Japan happened to be attending the wrap party and was like 'oh what why do you have that intro screen music?' and they had to shut down the party and panic-compose a new intro.

It's good to know Sega's never changed. :allears:

Nope, it turns out the entire game is just 10 hours of Studiopolis. It's the longest Sonic stage ever.

Yeah but with that music it would still be an above average contemporary sonic game.

Public service announcement: If you ever need to get chores done quickly, just make a playlist with all three versions of the Sweet Mountain theme and listen to it on loop while you work. You will get poo poo done twice as fast and you will inexplicably have fun doing it.

how the gently caress does this happen.

that explains why the sonic spinball theme is less than 10 seconds long.

For some reason Sega keeps doing this thing where they'll get third party musicians to make a piece of music and then licence it for specific game use, rather than commission them to make music that Sega would then own or have indefinite rights to. They got the guy from a JPop band Dreams Come True to do the music from Sonic 1 and 2, but the band hit big after that and they were too expensive to deal with.

Same reason that Sonic CD's Japanese intro doesn't have lyrics in the remaster, or the PC Sonic 3 has totally different music for some levels - those licences were for those specific games on specific platforms, it seems.

If they're going to recreate the true Sonic experience for Sonic Jam, then they should license out a track to... I dunno... Billy Ocean.

The intro to Sonic Spinball is rad as gently caress and I remember vividly watching it in a supermarket over and over again (they were running the intro + title screen + short demo on a loop on the TV's in the game section)

Edit: Then I got the game for my birthday and it wasn't so rad

The way the bosses die in that game is so great; it's a complete riot of explosions, screen shaking and falling metal that almost grinds the game to a halt, before Sonic peaces out straight through the screen.

Good morning everyone, for those wondering, my birthday was great and I cut 50 seconds off my PR on my 30th while wearing my cool sonic shirt. As usual, it's only black dudes that ever acknowledge the shirt/say it's cool/give thumbs up

But anyway, I really just wanted to post the cherry on top of it all for anyone who hasn't seen this yet:

Trump had a few successes early on but otherwise his releases have pretty much all been garbage, there are just way too may spin-offs that are cheap lovely cash-ins, and his fans are all weirdos who masturbate to anime

Oh man so much so. This is the best description of it I've ever read.

If you overclock then this no longer lags, and sonic losing 100 rings runs about the same as losing 10. Those are the biggest changes you would ever notice though - Treasure games have the lag programmed in and don't really benefit.

Played a bit of Fire & Ice and I can already tell this is the best of the Sonic Boom games (though that's not saying much). It's much faster paced (though I'm a bit dissapointed they didn't give Amy her triple jump from Rise of Lyric), the levels are a lot shorter and less maze like than in Shattered Crystal (I completed the first act in a little less than 2 minutes) and while there are still collectables, as far as I can tell so far they're just for unlocking extra content and not actually required to complete the game. So yeah, surprisingly a lot more fun than I was expecting.

It was a free download on the Sega Game Toshokan. The Sega Game Toshokan was like the Satellaview but you needed to buy a Sega Meganet online subscription and Sega Mega Modem to go online on your Sega Genesis
