In Quill's Rome videos he is confused by this at first but around episode 15ish he discovers that if you click the citizen icon multiple times on districts that accept multiple citizens it will toggle between 0, 1, 2, etc. citizens. The UI/UX for this is extremely poor.

I think it is tied to the number of buildings in a district.

For example a Campus doesn't have a slot per se, but a library adds the first one and then the university adds a second or third. Sort of like the specialist buildings in V but all clumped together in the same tile.

Apparently you need to have a building in the district first. So a campus district won't have a slot until you build a library there.

Makes sense I suppose. UI is pretty bad there though.

Is there a way to guarantee independence or otherwise warn people off of attacking your city state buddies?

The more Civ6 I watch the more I wonder why they didn't just use a CTP style Public Works system where you just divert some production from cities into a common pool and use that to buy tile upgrades etc. It's even more like how Builders work now without the micro of moving the Builders about.

If they made war more like CTP style public works it might be a system in which the AI could actually compete.

loving hell, why doesn't the civics screen show how your changes will affect your resource incomes? You need to work it out yourself and then see if you were right when you confirm. Argh.

At the very least, I hope you can change your mind freely on a turn you change civics, so you aren't penalized for testing out a change and seeing it's not actually helpful.

I was feeling very nostalgic for Civ and booted up my old MSDOS version of Civilization 1. I've got all 5 civs so I'll definitely get 6... just kinda sad I'll haveta (again) wait because I own a mac. Oh well. The civ5 port was quite good in my opinion.

The reason I bring it up is because it reminded me of a whole thing back in those days they did for write protection - quizzes. IT was a thing where they'd "quiz your knowledge" and you'd have to flip to the page in the manual to answer it (or guess).

THAT was weirder.

I can't remember the tech, but I saw a quote on one of Filthy's videos from Garrison Keillor that was something like "Air conditioning brought about the fall of the Roman Empire. They kept their windows closed all the time and couldn't hear the barbarians coming."

Is it wrong that I seriously love this idea, not counting the microtransaction part? But I think it'd be great if as part of the Hall of Fame you had a customizable Throne Room that had bits and pieces unlocked by different victory types or civs, maybe attached to various achievements. All purely cosmetic, but my collector's urge would make me get every little thing.

Watching vids this seems to be one of the more... chaotic versions of Civ? There's just a ton of poo poo going on at once.

Also why are trade caravans already full on trucks in 1400 A.D. we haven't even discovered oil yet.

I suppose they're no less out of place than the planes flying around the same time as the dawn of ocean-faring ships. I'm basically waiting for a spearman to defeat a tank at this point.

Buildings and support units change aesthetics as you progress through eras. Civ 4 did this too.

It was at the height of that awkward era, though, and was pretty pop. Its charm was absolutely a product of its time. If they made something similar today, the social advisor would probably be some kind of unbearable Peter Griffin-style imbecile.

Civ 2 wonder movies were the best thing, they felt like a reward by themselves. However, they only worked that well because the rest of the game no distinct artistic direction, and the wonder movie producers were free to make one video where you had sketches presented over a jazz soundtrack, one that is an epic montage of sailors that could be the intro to a 16 century documentary, and also a video of a dude in a funny costume reciting Shakespeare and nothing felt out of place because there was no specific theme they had to follow.

With as few times as I've finished a game, and I presume others, I wonder how useful this could be, even from a cosmetic standpoint? Or even 'get you to finish a game' standpoint? And would it still work with mods in play? God knows how many mods I run...

Were you watching Quill18? He greatly emphasized science and kind of rushed to flight when he saw it was possible which put him in the modern era ridiculously early. He finished the whole tech tree in the 1800s.

The dates in the game might be a bit poorly calibrated, or he might have just had way more science than expected. His cultural tech was way more reasonable, which lead to him researching robotics and suffrage at about the same time.

It's kind of neat how much he could focus, especially since his capital was in such a science poor area. I guess hardcore specialization is still possible on an empire level, even if certain cities have limitations.

Seems like it would be really difficult to balance though, so I imagine only one or two options will be optimal, but for now it looks impressively open.
