Decided to change it up a little bit and do some painting again! This is my reproduction of Alphonse Mucha's 'Zodiac', 1896.

Bonus process gif, I've been trying to be better about recording it lately. (Edit, I'm dumb and can't post gifs apparently, so here's a link)

Got a smattering of new stuff to post. Been working with models for the first time in ages.

I think my body of work's starting to get into a nice Cronenbergy groove.

Realtalk though, I've thought about random condiments etc to paint with and very few would be workable. Vegemite and toothpaste have a really similar viscosity to acrylic paint (though toothpaste is a bit stickier). Most other things will behave very differently to paint. I did a couple of quick and dirty paintings with chocolate sauce a few years back and it was an absolute nightmare and the hardest medium I've ever worked with.

Sure why not? At least it's not poo poo and blood right?
PS:There may be some blood in one of my old paintings somewhere possibly as well as some ash.

several people compared me to him. Though I'm sure I was aware of him
in some way before that.
No heroin needed yet though!

Make it a double.
I haven't drawn in ages, but I picked up a pack of oil pastels for $3 the other day and drew a bird I found in GIS. I forgot how pleasant it is to just draw.

You should make a copy of that for the coworker to give to their kid. I know when I was little, seeing something I messily sketched turned into a pretty piece of art would of made me ecstatic.

I have three regrets
The first is to be born in Joseon.
Does anyone have any recommendations for portable pencil sharpeners? What do you all use/ do?

I'm used to using an electric one but I've started going to a figure drawing thing and I think it'd be pretty rude for me to use it there (everyone is super quiet there), and when I'm trying to use the non-electric one I had lying around I'm finding it breaks the lead probably a third of the time.

I'm a fan of the two-stage long lead sharpener.

https://www.amazon.com/Alvin-Pencil-Sharpener-Pointer-AS2M/dp/B0084F7I1C

It's weird but it works well for artist pencils and seems to not waste as much pencil as some others I've tried. The downside is that it has to be emptied very frequently and it doesn't have a cap or cover to keep shavings from falling back out into your bag/pencil case. All my pencil cases are super gross because of uncovered sharpeners.

This is another one that has served me well, which does have a cap:
