By the way, can we submit without using magic set editor or whatever it's called? I'd be interested in doing this but not interested enough to actually download it and learn how to use it or whatever.

It took me all of 90 seconds to slam this card together: EDIT: and then it took me less than 30 seconds to edit the card (needs to be a creature in addition to existing types). Really, it's easy. Some planeswalkers produce emblems, usually as an ultimate. They generally couldn't be messed with, until now. Includes bonus planeswalker manipulation for fun and profit.

This is one of a cycle of "rune" enchantments i've had kicking around for a bit. Color pie wise, this might be better in green.

Though Magic Set Editor really is super easy to use, it's not one of those "it's super easy to use after you've sunk five hours into getting used to it" things -- there's really not much reason not to unless it doesn't work on your OS or something. I don't know if you could still tap it for mana though, since it becomes a 1/1 dryad creature right? Maybe something like this would work? The parsing is terrible though. Honorable Mentions Poison Mushroom's Forgetfulness: I love the idea of enchanting a spell on the stack to "freeze" it in place. Unfortunately, I don't think this really works as written -- once the spell is exiled, it's a different game object (and isn't even a spell anymore), so Forgetfulness isn't attached to it anymore and will immediately die. It would need a clause like Animate Dead (Forgetfulness loses "Enchant spell" and gains "Enchant card exiled with Forgetfulness", etc). I think in the end this would work better as a non-Aura like Oblivion Ring, but it's a cool concept. Gynovore's Aura Twiddle: This is really cute, and I love dumb meta things like "Enchant Aura". I'm a bit surprised at some of the activated ability pricing here, though; why does changing the Aura's controller cost so much more than changing the Aura's target? Often changing the target gives you everything you need. If you could only change the target of the Aura if you controlled it I'd understand. Mystic Mongol's Grafdigger's Memory: I don't think graveyards are legal targets, but I love that Enchant line too much to care. Poison Mushroom's Voltaic Lock: It's a little piece of a machine that you bolt onto a bigger machine There should be more Artifact Auras. Zephyrum's Stable Homefront: Makes for very interesting gameplay decisions, but very short and simple to write out. This is a strong design. Third Place Irony Be My Shield's Blazing Pact: In a two-player game, most Enchant Player spells may as well be normal enchantments. They interact differently with some things like a player having hexproof, but you don't exactly have a lot of choices for which opponent to enchant with your Curse. This gets around that in a clever way by being perfectly reasonable to play on either player at different phases in the game. Toss it on yourself early for some powerful ramp at a price, or on your opponent late to burn them down. Second Place AJ_Impy's Sengir's Blessing: Giving lifelink and deathtouch to noncreatures is the sort of thing-that's-completely-within-the-rules-but-actual-cards-almost-never-do that I love seeing in these contests. I actually think this card might be better off without the counter-adding clause; slapping those keywords on any damage-dealing permanent you choose is cool enough naturally without artificially making it combo better with things like planeswalkers. (I had a similar thought with your later submission too -- "You control enchanted emblem" is cool enough that you can just let the mic drop right there.) Regardless, this card owns. First Place Irony Be My Shield's Earthen Memories: I love all of the potential this card suggests. On the surface it just lets your land tap for any color of mana, but across all the lands printed in the last twenty years it allows a huge amount of versatility and possible combos. I also like how it doesn't copy triggered abilities, so that the obvious Dark Depths use doesn't overshadow all the other cool tricks you could pull. And it's nice and pithy to boot. Lands with non-mana effects Over a third of your deck can often just sit around producing mana, but sometimes lands can be much more. They can be payoffs for archetypes, mana sinks or even win conditions in and of themselves. This contest is about lands that have at least one ability not related to mana production/fixing. This includes "mana sink" effects like manlands, sac effects like the Blighted cycle, triggered abilities and abilities activated from outside the battlefield like cycling. I would particularly like to see lands that are unique mechanically or in how they play out. When judging I will also be thinking about balance and whether they'll lead to interesting gameplay. New version below. There aren't a lot of interesting common lands, and even fewer that have a use beyond 'low budget mana fixing'. So, hell, why not build one around being common? With one, it's a repeatable Electritrickery, but at four, it's a repeatable Flameslash. That feels pretty good for an ETBT land, honestly, especially in a draft where you might be able to pluck two or three for some repeatable removal. Edit Decided to embrace the 'feels like a pre-NWO land' thing. girl dick energy fucked around with this message at 05:31 on Oct 5, 2016 |

New version below Because Bant always needs more help, right? In contrast to the last one, I wanted to make a Mythic land that actually felt Mythic. Something with that "I want to build a deck around this" factor.
