Yeah pearl clutching was at an all-time high over that ND/Miami game.

John's a pretty interesting character and I don't think that will be an ultra exciting episode or anything but he's had some serious demons. He still gets huge galleries anytime he shows up at events though and comes off as far more of an everyman than most PGA pros did at the time.

Phi Slama Jama is going to 100% own.

We need 30 For 30 films on the following:
  • Doc Ellis' acid-laced no-hitter
  • Wilt Chamberlain - everything he ever did
  • Steve Howe getting "banned for life" from MLB something like six times for coke and being allowed back every time
  • The 1990's Dallas Cowboys

I had no idea ESPN was showing taped clips of First Take at halftime of MNF. That's loving hilarious. They must be starved for viewers.

NFL ratings in general are down. One really good theory I've heard is that the election is causing it:

http://www.si.com/tech-media/2016/10/04/nfl-ratings-presidential-election-donald-trump-hillary-clinton

Of course, in ESPN's case the bad matchups don't help

Marv Albert got a multi-year contract extension to call NBA games on TNT: http://www.nba.com/2016/news/02/09/marv-albert-contract-extension-tnt.ap/

He has really slipped (being 83 doesn't help) so I don't care much for this decision.

e: I saw on twitter that some 83 year old announcer signed a new agreement earlier this week, but I can't remember who and I guess it wasn't Marv.

Also, why the hell does that page on NBA.com prevent my browser from using the Alt+D to get to the address bar quickly? Their new site redesign sucks balls.

ESPN set up shop during SXSW last year and showed a preview of the John Daly 30 for 30. What I saw did center focus a lot on his alcoholism, food consumption, and struggles with fame. Would've like to have seen more about how he got along with other golfers and the general contrast between him, his fans, and the general golfing population, but maybe that'll come through in the full version.

It was also fun to walk out of that showing wearing an MSU polo into public, blissfully unaware that they could possibly lose to Middle Tennessee State.

I find myself skipping the TNF or MNF games to watch something on Netflix a lot more than I used to. I don't really even know why. Maybe there are better options available, maybe it's the excess commercials, maybe I don't have the attention span I used to. Still love RedZone Channel to death but watching regular season games that the Bears aren't in have just gotten boring to me.

Buzz Bissinger's Gucci addiction is right up there too

The intro:

In the past few years, I've bought eighty-one leather jackets. Dozens of boots and leather gloves. I've purchased pants that cost $5,000. I own a $22,000 coat. This winter I took a tour of Milan's Fashion Week (all expenses paid by Gucci, in appreciation of my many, many purchases), where I spent tens of thousands more and began to seriously grapple, once and for all, with a compulsion that could cost me more than just my life savings. My name is Buzz Bissinger. I am 58 years old, the best-selling author of 'Friday Night Lights,' father of three, husband. And I am a shopaholic
