Maybe I should go back and watch more of the video episodes. I'm watching the latest one, and it's terrific just watching Schrab make faces as he watches Dan and Jeff talk.

Also, Dan looks exhausted. :ohdear:

He's always looked exhausted though...

If he was exhausted during the ED-209 bit then bring it on, one of the best silly improv bits in a while, if ever.

Outta my way, ya dumb rah-rah!
My boyfriend and I were in the audience at 214 and it was awesome.

We've been texting the "Mennonite/Pussy tight/gently caress all night" line back and forth to each other on repeat since Tuesday and I'm excited for the rest of the world to join in :allears:

The first recorded podcast episode is when Spencer shows up, so that might be a good place.

Not to be a stickler, but to be a stickler; he shows up in Episode 5 - Confessions of an Alcoholic Mars Rover. I know this because I just had to go back and listen to it again and it's magical hearing this awesome guy get plucked up randomly :allears:

I mean his garage is in the documentary, but it's not like he loves having guests.

My favorite part about Harmontown is when they encode the monaural audio in stereo and fail to normalize it at all!

When you download the MP3, it's encoded in stereo, even though the left and right channels don't differ at all. That just about doubles the file size. Then, since they don't normalize the audio, it plays at like 25% volume and you have to crank your player way up to hear it. (Normalizing the audio is when you amplify the audio so the loudest part is closer to 100% volume.)

The volume on the video episodes is a problem for me -- the music bits that Jeff plays (especially at the start of the show) are loud, and I have to turn my speakers down to keep from bothering the neighbors. But by comparison, all the talky parts of the podcast are very quiet. :argh:

It's encoded in mid/side stereo. This means that instead of separately encoding a left channel and a right channel, it encodes a mid channel containing the sum or average of the left/right channels, and a side channel containing the difference between the left/right channels, and reconstructs the left and right channels on playback. The encoder assigns as much of the bitrate to each channel as necessary. So for a mono file being encoded as 128kbps mid/side stereo like Harmontown is, zero (or a negligible amount) is assigned to the side channel, and the mid channel is encoded at essentially 128kbps.

Why? It's effectively the same as encoding it as 128kbps mono (same file size, same quality).

The first NY ep was slow as hell and the guest sucked, though she was trying a bit, a lot like Aubrey Plaza, though I hear she's great in Harmonquest?

The second one was a little better but dragged in that way that location eps tend to when Dan is uncomfortable. Also, boring audience people getting dragged onstage. However I'll admit the one guy's joke about dudes with his haircut losing their gallbladder was pretty good.
