Season 2 is a great corrupt-cop detective story, it just isn't as good as season 1, which is a truly amazing bit of television. Just watch them in reverse order and you should be fine. I know that this has become a bit of a joke, but I got this video in my youtube recommendations. Turns out the guy who animated this is Russian-Canadian. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhuK9dwfMQc&t=89s

Season 2 gets ripped on a lot. But as someone who loves Neo-Noir, especially "To Live and Die in LA" I really liked season 2. It could have been tighter overall, but I still liked it.

White Rabbit posted:pro-tip right here, this is less known than the usual Venture Bros / Archer recommendations and from just the 1st episode it looks really close to R&M in tone and substance. Thanks! Another cartoon series that I can recommend is the Japanese anime One Punch Man. It's set in a world where there's a ton of evil monsters and superheroes who all take themselves overly seriously but it turns out that the most powerful superhero of all is a completely clueless, selfish idiot who pretty much everyone ignores because he's basically R&M's Jerry in a cape. It's got a similar feel to R&M because it takes a whole bunch of genre tropes and places them in a fairly well developed universe but the focal character is too wrapped up in his own sense of ennui to care about all that poo poo.

OPM is really a fantastic show, but I've never really thought of it in terms of it's R&M connection before. I can see the arguments you're making. I don't necessarily agree that they're all that similar of shows, but OPM is cool and good, so people should watch it anyway.

Foam? I'd expect nerf gun, part of a cd player, a telescope lens, and a big battery

So, is there a female character who looks like a child but is really a 10,000 year old demon and the camera always points right up her dress every time she's on screen?

The only anime I like are the Ghost in the Shell movie and OPM. As someone who thinks anime is dumb and overly tropey: OPM is a delightful deconstruction of an idiotic genre. You should watch it. Actually, you should watch both: they somehow manage to transcend their moronic niche.

I tried to watch ghost in the shell show with my sister once and i couldn't take the parts where major and her boss talk technobabble at length while her nearly bare rear end hangs out seriously.

Snowglobe of Doom posted:Oh there's lots and lots of differences, but OPM is totally a Jerry. If anything, Saitama is more like Rick than anyone else in R&M. They both represent the apex of power in their respective genres; Rick is the most intelligent person in a sci-fi universe, while Saitama is the strongest in an anime world. In fact, they are so much more powerful than anyone else, that any kind of conflict provides just a minor distraction that is immediately forgotten as they slide back into their empty lives. They balk at anyone trying to get close to them, and spend their time just escaping, either by living a sedentary lifestyle (Saitama), or indulging their addictions (Rick). The shows are completely different though and I would never suggest OPM to someone as a follow up to R&M. Do watch it if you want to see a funny and loving deconstruction of the shonen genre that comes with a few strings attached, but don't expect to have your mind blown.

Yea it's good but if you aren't interested in anime you're not gonna like OPM cause in a lot of ways you need to "get" shonen anime to get the most out of it (or you're just gonna hate it on principal for being anime) Also the main character is literally nothing like Jerry except in the most vague "everyman character who some people poo poo on" way, but the contexts as well as their entire personalities are totally different

I just typed in "one punch man female character" to see if you weren't joking and, yep, loving pedo bait bullshit. "Oh but the character who looks like a little child is a joke. Look at all these images of the camera pointing right up her dress, aren't they just the deconstructing funniest?" From the same people who brought us "JoJo is completely different from other anime. Look at all its homoerotic imagery and it has a bunch of cool 80s musical references!" And it turned out it's generic punchy men which apparently later turns into invisible magical friends punching hour and all the "cool musical references" are from the creators opening a wikipedia article on old band names and randomly calling their characters ACDC and REO Speedwagon and poo poo. Also we shouldn't pass over all the horrific abuse to animals it has and what I'm told is borderline animated child porn in the second season. In short - never trust anyone who tells you to watch anime. It's all poo poo.
