I guess all the cartoons and poo poo just never left America, I only remember it as the games that weren't nearly as good as the X-Wing series.

So here's what gets me, in any of the wnig commander games do you ever actually get to play as a wing commander? Like, one that commands a large spacecraft battlegroup and makes important tactical/strategic/administrative decisions. I never really played the wing commander games back in the day, we had X-wing/TIE fighter instead and those were rad. I remember trying out one of the demos and thinking "the enemy ships are sprites, not 3d, what the hell is this poo poo?" and having a hell of a time actually hitting anything because this made it loving hard to judge speed/heading/depth perception poo poo, given that I was used to the star wars space sims. I will say that it was cool how they released a little standalone expansion for one of the games (4? 5?) in easy-to-download (on a 56k) weekly chunks, for free. Secret ops or special ops or something. It got pretty formulaic in that most or all of the missions amounted to "teleport to new area, kill ships, repeat", but the format was neat. [fake edit] oh, google reveals that crobbs had no apparent involvement on this one, quelle surprise

Also moma - and I'm sorry to break this to you because it may come as a shock - Star Citizen in its current state is crap. It's not fun to play, it's not innovative, it doesn't even have spectacular visuals. It's loving boring and broken. You can't even point to it and say what they've done so far is proof they're capable of finishing even in 7 years. Crobber & Co are 5 years in and they've made less progress than a smaller and better organised team could have in less than half the time (and several have, further proof that CIG are loving clownshoes).

For a looking straight-ahead at a screen space pilot game I think yaw would be the last movement you need to think about emulating. You're looking away from the screen at that point, even with panoramic display you still aren't centering on your field of vision.

I don't know for sure, but I'd ASSUME (lol) that the feedback is tied to the controller. That's how arcade driving sims work, anyway. Then events (eg, a collision) do a quick scripted "shakey" override, but the software has to be able to communicate with the chair hardware for that, so probably never in the case of SC. e: They are basically a passthrough usually, kinda like a guitar pedal. The flimsy support struts on that chair will break the first time he tries to make his bald naked space commando get up out of the pilot chair and it is instead violently expelled out of the autism chariot into the black, spinning at insane speeds around itself. If he is lucky, he will just hit the floor, if he is unlucky he might even impale himself on one of the sharp metal sticks underneath his chair. No need to worry, this is fine.

Ben had better get smart and cash in on his "fame" right now. Because when Star Citizen fades away over the next couple of years he's going to have a hard time taking care of himself on ss checks. Now that he's raised enough money to buy the boxes of garbage (- 1 ), surely he needs a small salary to do all the work of archiving. Right? Sure buddy.

im still confused. - star citizen is the MMO thing - squadron 42 is some kind of single player thing based on star citizen - star marine is ??? a standalone fps based on star citizen ??? so does sq42 not have any first person shooting? i know the real answer is that chris roberts is a retard, but was there ever any coherent plan of what these things are and how they fit together?

Supposed to have 100's of solar systems and be instanced somehow. - SQ42 is the single player AAA COD killer campaign with A-list hollywood actors. Backers have purchased some amount of this, but no real answers on how much. Supposedly going to be multiple episodes of 20-30 hrs game-play each (cut scenes). -Star Marine is the test bed for FPS. It was supposed to come out as a stand-alone deathmatch style shooter as a proof-of-concept for the FPS elements of the game similar to what arena commander was for flight mechanics. This was "weeks not months" away last summer. Then it was out already what are you complaining about in January. Now it's definitely going to be done and amazing by the end of the year.
