Hi. The left were referenced from Google and the right was drawn without. It's why she looks static and lifeless.

So I recently started taking drawing more seriously and have been drawing gestures for the past several days. Considering I don't know anyone who draws for a living, might as well ask the goons for any feedback regarding my work so far. Just note that I have absolutely zero drawing experience.

Quick feedback: try to draw your forms without using outlines. Try expressing them either as skeletons or discrete volumes stuck together. You're losing definition and depth when you rely on only exterior lines.

Hi there. I've been working on learning to draw over the past little while. Here's my attempt at drawing a marble texture. I used a fine felt-tip pen for the black and then a pencil for some extra depth. Does anyone have any recommendations for getting something like this to look as good as possible with these tools? This one is from a while ago, before I was actively trying to learn. I just drew it straight from a photo but I'm pretty happy with it. It's just pencil. Unfortunately I don't have a scanner so I had to just take pictures with my phone's camera. I know this affects how the pictures look, since the whites aren't as white anymore, so sorry for that. Anyway, I'd be happy to hear any comments, positive or negative.

I've been really trying to focus on life drawing the past couple months. Trying to go to two sessions a week, although it doesn't always work out. I think these were 20-30 minute poses. Been experimenting with different media than I'm used to, which is fun. These are Conté ŕ Paris on 18x24 paper.

I only started learning and working at it since late October but I enjoy drawing as a means of mellowing out and removing myself from the world. I don't really have anything impressive to share but here are some practices I've been doing recently.

I've been getting a bit discouraged lately, so it's nice to get some positive feedback. There was another session where we had two models, which was fun. It seemed to come out a bit different because I had to work so fast to render two figures and I was also using the conte on newsprint, which was much more smooth.

Turns out painting 20,536 pixels by hand is profoundly time consuming. I'm about half way through and it still seems a little daunting

I'm partly just doing it to practice sharp edges and small lines otherwise I definitely would have streamlined the process.

Vladimir Poutine posted:Where in time is Carmen Sandiego This is good and impressive in scope for sure, but I wish you would have pushed the mid tone colors more to give it more contrast, even if it wasn't in the reference. Just a tad more pop would elevate this piece to a whole different level. As a spaz who is obsessed with tiny detail in my own work, I salute you either way. That painting is a beast of an achievement. Carotid - those sketches are all delightful. I would love to see something in an opaque medium from you. I think you would kill it.

I've been considering trying out gouache, actually. I used acrylics for a little bit in the past but I don't like how they make notebook pages stick together. Does anyone have recommendations for a good brand for gouache? I don't mind starting off with the good stuff.

Holbein Acryla Gouache is amazing stuff. It's not technically gouache but I find it better in almost all respects. Winsor Newton Designer's Gouache is also excellent and is real gouache.

my friend got me some really nice prismacolor pencils for christmas and I don't really know how to use them yet but I drew a pokemon she likes because it was a very nice gift my scanner loving murdered the texture of this, are there any settings/filters I can change to make colored pencil scan better? I don't really want to spend like half an hour blurring parts to fix the insane contrast
