In the interests of breathing some life into this dead thread then, I'll post a bunch of stuff I have been listening too lately. My tastes probably fall on the more poppy (or mainstream) side than most people here but I'll include a description of each.

Pierce Fulton - Echo Lake
https://soundcloud.com/piercefulton/echo-lake

Can probably just classify this as electronic. This is off his new EP and features Pierce on vocals for the first time.

Kidnap Kid - Like You Used To
https://soundcloud.com/kidnap_kid/like-you-used-to

I love Kidnap Kid's production style, feel like I can recognize his tracks without looking. This is closer to deep house, but with vocals so maybe that's more progressive? I don't know.

Jax Jones - House Work
https://soundcloud.com/jaxjones/house-work

Just a fun house track with a great vocal hook.

Madeon & Porter Robinson - Shelter
https://soundcloud.com/porter-robinson/porter-robinson-madeon-shelter-5

Definitely in the same vein as their recent albums, poppy with great production. They are on their Shelter Live tour together and I will be seeing them at Bill Graham this month in San Francisco.

Two Friends - Big Booty Mix Volume 10
https://soundcloud.com/twofriendsmixes5/bb10

This is a mashup mix that blends a lot of electro instrumentals and pop vocals from pretty much everywhere. I appreciate the creativity of these mixes and will admit I am a sucker for nostalgic acapellas over electro. Seeing these guys at a show in Sacramento on Thursday which should be a lot of fun. They have some cool remixes as well (some are featured in the mashups).

Flume - Say It ft. Tove Lo (Clean Bandit Remix)
https://soundcloud.com/futureclassic/flume-sayit-cleanbandit-remix

I like Flume a lot and this is a really cool take on one of the singles from his latest album.

Mat Zo ft. I See MONSTAS - Sinful (Louis La Roche Remix)
https://soundcloud.com/matzo/sinfulllrremix

I love Louis La Roche and think he did an incredible job on this disco house remix. The original is great, but this makes me want to dance way more.

Hopefully there is at least something in there that will catch your ear.

Edit: Added Louis La Roche track

Just listened to Fire - it's really interesting. You can tell that it's a homage record (like AVD), but the aesthetic seems more faithful than RAM's, which I think had similar aspirations. It's the polar opposite technically, it sounds dirty and saturated, like something that was produced on tape. I, personally, prefer that to the super clean sound that DP seems to be going for.

Speaking of DP, what are people's thoughts on the two tracks they released with The Weeknd?

Personally, I really like Starboy and think it has a great vibe. I wasn't too thrilled with I Feel It Coming, and I don't really know why. It might be because it didn't feel like a new track, it felt like something I have heard before, whereas Starboy (at least for me) had something that felt new and interesting. Please don't take this to mean that I think they actually did something new, it just felt that way.

The drums on "Starboy" are phenomenal, but the rest of the track is just dull. The piano sounds uninspired and the vocal just does absolutely nothing.

"I Feel It Coming" is much better, but it just sounds like an attempt to milk the Weeknd/MJ comparisons - like "Can't Feel My Face" part two. I'm just not feeling it that much. It's really indicative of the popstar transformation that they've attempted with The Weeknd over the past record and a half. It's less risky and way more toned down.

Obviously, I think "Tell Your Friends" is far and away his best work, and I think he sounds better over tracks with a little more edge (or, alternatively, stuff like "Often"). This other stuff just seems safe.

Your Weeknd/MJ comment really hit home for me, listening to it again I hear exactly what you are talking about. On Starboy, I guess I got really excited by the grittier bass sound with percussion in the intro but then it softens out for the rest. I like the Weeknd's vocals on Starboy but that's probably because my tastes run on the poppy side compared to yours.

Yes, I really like how much Machinedrum switches styles, both solo and then in Sepalcure. One of my favourite artists these days. His boiler room sets are fun too.

I don't expect them to repeat anything on cross any time soon. If you use AVD as a map and the ideal that they're moving through the various era of dance, they'll get back to cross around album 4 or 5.

Besides, the draw is going to be seeing them live and seeing an insane show around this music.
