Lladre posted:I don't have a VR headset so I am a little lost here. Do you even need to start up a virtual desktop to stream the video to your headset? I thought you just jacked it into one of the HDMI ports and you at least get your screen. If you haven't used a VR headset I can understand the confusion. You might be imagining that just by jacking in the HDMI you'll get the equivalent of a monitor screen in front of your eyes like a giant TV you're sitting right in front of. It doesn't work that way. The VR headset does have little screens in front of each eye, yes, but if you just piped the monitor throughput directly to them it would be like pressing your eyeball directly against your television - you'd see maybe 1% of the picture, whatever is in the middle of the screen, it would be loving huge, and you'd have to roll your eyeballs all around to even glimpse anything else. Just imagine going to an IMAX film and standing 1 foot in front of the screen - useless, so it doesn't work that way. Instead, a slightly different image is sent to each eye to replicate a 3D environment, and it usually starts you off in an empty space (picture the construct from the Matrix and you're very close.) Then you build the 3D environment in that space. So in this case, with Virtual Desktop, you're in an empty 3D space, maybe with a starfield background or something, then you create a virtual flatscreen monitor in that space. You position your monitor the way you like it - whatever size you want, whatever angle and position, height, distance from your eyes, etc. Then you stream the game onto that virtual monitor. Find someone with GearVR and have them show you the Netflix app. You put on VR goggles to sit in a 3D room on a virtual couch and you can look all around and see out the windows etc. In front of you is a giant TV screen that streams the Netflix show you've picked, except at far lower resolution than it would be just watching the loving thing on TV. It's technically interesting but gets old fast. Whichever way you slice it, what he did is in no way VR - not by any definition of the word. He simply chose to sit in front of a low-resolution virtual monitor instead of a high-resolution real-life monitor. He actually made the experience worse and it left him in awe. Star Citizen is redefining what it means to be mentally ill.

Welcome to the Crowdfunding Development Spreadsheet 2.0. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tMAP0fg-AKScI3S3VjrDW3OaLO4zgBA1RSYoQOQoNSI/htmlview#gid=1694467207 A diary of shattered dreams. I will selfquote me in 3 years after this Desaster came to an end and funding stopped in summer 2019 with 190 Million Dollar sunk and ~ 70 % missed stretch goals and creeped features with a 61 metascore SQ42 that would have been a solid 76 in 2014 and a SC Beta 4.3 with several half finished modules. Meanwhile pgabz videos are linked from gaming mags who try to explain why the gaming "journalists" ignored and did not "get" the obvious fiasco till the end. Derek Smart releases a book "Star Citizen: After Wing Commander Chris Roberts made is 'Verse". It is a topseller at xmas 2019 with a comprehension and aftermath of all that was said and done, ending with "one last personal note to Chris Roberts: "It does not matter any more, Chris, but this is a sad story for PC Gaming. By the way, I was right. Find more about Line of Defense on my Smartspeak Website."

Jesus christ, i only just realized the Star Citizen VR guy didn't even get head tracking to work. So he was literally staring at a virtual 2D screen. It's *exactly* the same experience he'd have if he plugged a TV into his computer and played SC on that, except at a shittier resolution and with an even lower framerate.

Kythera, they're using a 3rd party AI system for SC now? Does that mean they ditched their in-house attempts or would this be a plan "B".
