I mean, that was their first show 13 years ago, still can't definitively day he's worn something different in the last decade.

That show was at Rutgers, literally a quarter mile from my dorm. I have no idea why that's where their first show was. I actually talked to Tomas a bit afterwards while him and his parents were loading stuff into their minivan. I should check and see if I can make me or my friends out in the crowd shots.

Toh Kay update - No hat, same shirt.

He got his buddies to play the full hands that thieves acoustic album. Also played a whole bunch of other stuff too. The crowd goaded him into playing a couple bars of Mrs. Butterworth, so that was cool.

All in all, one big sing along :)

Lighting was terrible for photography/video.

Paid $35/seat for "reserved", one of our seats was directly behind a support pole (the venue was in a basement) so I complained to the box office, they ended up giving us two seats in the second row, just to the right of Tomas.

Great show, first hour was back and forth between audience requests and Tomas' choices, then second hour was THTT. No special audience requests but it is fun to hear him struggle through older songs.

"Dicky Barrett came off as one of those rare performers who is both a terrible singer and a world-class frontman.

...

much of their work is actually intensely melancholic. It’s about lost love and insecurity, and nostalgia and neurosis and people going away and sometimes even coming back. A lot of music is like this, of course, but the Bosstones are able to get these feelings across in a way that is palatable to the local sensibility. It may be melancholy, but it’s loud and fun, meaning you can vent both anger and sorrow while listening to it"
