There should be a formal system with rules and regulations where the teachers are allowed to mold you into a functional person. The way it works now you have bullies beating on weak people with no supervision and no recourse if they go too far without subjecting yourself to more intense bullying. Let teachers have absolute authority and I think we'd be a lot better off. Coddling helps nobody. Teachers used to be allowed to, and did, beat the students with wooden rods. Is that the kind of authority you are talking about? Bullying produces people who are timid and depressed, and people who have a chip on their shoulder and are looking for an excuse to gently caress someone up. Neither is good.

Mocking might teach someone what is socially acceptable, but bullying doesn't give a poo poo what you do in response. I was really coming more from the fact they acknowledged that other gods existed and "belonging to a different religion" meant someone was seeking the blessing of that god. There was still (self-)flagellation, human sacrifices, and ritualistic suicide, but religious violence was usually preformed internally and exclusively for ceremonial purposes.

I think there's a difference between teasing and mocking as part of social pressure to conform and bullying. The latter is bad, the former is how you prevent bronies and anime later in life.

I think that making fun of behaviors can be useful, but not directly targeting the person him/herself (though in practice it's probably impossible to divorce the two). Post-rock is pretty fun to play/jam with others but as far as listening goes I'll normally put it on as background rather than for 'serious listening'. Meanwhile, a one-hit wonder song like t.A.T.u.'s All The Things She Said is different in some way every 4 bars, lots of recurring motifs with different instrumentation, weird structure outside of choruses and all that other stuff post-rock fans love to blather about. Except it's catchy so therefore 'unworthy'.

Definitely agree about post-rock. Every song being a crescendo that starts off soft and builds into a big ending is pretty boring to me at this point. I'd much rather hear a rock band play catchy riffs and rhythms then have to wait a whole song for the band to finally rock out.

Noisy, aggressive music isn't as popular as it deserves thanks to the social stigma surrounding enjoying it. It isn't OK to assume that every person that enjoys the heaviest metal they can find is a drug-addled loser who wants to spend his life being unemployed and getting into fights. I like nasty, abrasive, aggressive music. I also happen to be a boring rear end software developer that does no drugs. gently caress your stereotypes.
