I wonder if the brothers have ever personally had real money troubles? Because that attitude seems to indicate "no." What that guy seems most troubled by is failure, not unprofitability, and that's an ego concern, not a survival one. Thus it makes sense why he'd be bewildered about his employees being upset by nonpayment. He assumes they're all in this together -- and "this" is his success.

This is a possibility. Definitely a personal issue more than a general CEO one, but the results are the same. People under them get screwed, they move on to the next company or project.

So RSI UK filed their accounts today. There isn't much to see, for reasons that will become immediately apparent, but they confirm the money moves around needlessly. I made a flow chart in MS paint for 2015 of the information so far.

The Star Citizen funding chart apparently showed $36m in 2015 with $3.3m of that coming in January, leaving $33m for February to December. Using an exchange rate of £1 : $1.55 for 2015 would put a total value of ~ £21m for February to December 2015 for the Star Citizen funding chart. That is clearly a material difference to the £15m that was shown in the accounts of Roberts Space Industries International Ltd.

When the UK parent company files their accounts there should be some more information on inter-company relationships.

I honestly think it would be poetic and the good ending.

Their greed for money is disgusting, I only think it would be fitting if that greed and disgusting tactics they used to be shady as gently caress are what ultimately do them in.

And to think, to bypass the whole mess all they had to do was release a new version of Freelancer or something with a fresh graphical shine (2 years ago).

That's part of the £4m that Foundry 42 Ltd were expecting to receive from HMRC for the video games tax credit (£1m is from 2014). At that time it only really existed on paper. On the profit and loss account as a tax rebate (making them show a profit equal to the rebate) and on their balance sheet as an asset for the full amount.

It's largely irrelevant until it crystallises since it would appear they are sensibly not relying on it yet. I have no idea what the actual state of this tax credit is, other than it would appear at a glance that Foundry 42 Ltd should not qualify for it.

They are in the stretch goals

4.5M - Cruiser ship clas as playable
15M is "escort carrier"
Battlecruiser is 17M

Leak sometime reported serious problems on the bigger ships, as in "The engine is unable to determine the correct position of every part of the model, causing it to tear itself appart on spawn".

I give them a pass at not having Battleships since the concept ceased to be an effective weapon halfway trough WW2. Planes outrange the biggest guns and no ammount of belt or bulge armor is going to save you from a dive bomb trough the deck (Yamato) or a torpedo on your rudder (Bismark). Battleships became nothing more than slow, juicy targets slurping precious fuel.

As part of INN’s ongoing mission to attract and welcome new members to the growing Star Citizen community, we’d like to start a program that helps us make a difference. We’re pleased to introduce the Sponsor a Spaceman Program. The concept is simple, if you’ve got a few bucks laying around and you want to help INN make somebody’s Star Citizen dreams come true, this is the way to do it. Rather than just give away ships to randomly drawn individuals all year, this is one special program where the decision will be made based on need.

I’ve said it before, but it’s worth repeating: Star Citizen alpha backers are among the most dedicated, enthusiastic, and generous gamers in the world. We are dedicated stakeholders and genuine pioneers who are excited about our opportunity to participate in the ongoing funding and development of Chris Robert’s vision. Some of us are also fortunate enough to have more ships than we need.

The Sponsor a Spaceman Program is the only needs based ship giveaway we’re aware of in the ‘Verse and that makes it special. For each Sponsor a Spaceman ship INN gives away we will run an essay contest and select a winner based on demonstrated need, interest in the game, and community spirit. The winning essays will be published anonymized.

We’re still in the process of determining the selection criteria but we will have a selection board to increase the fairness while reducing the possibility of capricious decision making. If you’ve got thoughts on how to make it as fair as possible and accomplish our mission, we’d like to hear from you!

As a Sponsor, we’ll add your name and a link to whatever you want to our homepage using a special Spaceman Sponsor badge which you can also put on your own website.

If you’d like to participate in the Sponsor a Spaceman program, please visit our permanent page for the program.

They are after the more resonable player who only bought a basic package.

A good % of those who write the essay but dont win will end up buying in anyway after having spent so much time thinking about how they would use the conveted asset. Engagement as a sale tactic is textbook classic for high margin goods, have the fence sitting buyers create their own feeling of need.

Maybe the whale oil is getting stale and they want to harvest the "middle class" of backers ?

I'm in the process of preparing my complaints to the various consumer agencies in case CIG decides to offer a refund of less than what I am owed. Fortunately I have an... extensive amount of information to work with. Putting it all together will likely take some time but I anticipate the various agencies will enjoy reading. So far I have to cover...

1. CIG transitioning from saying that additional funds will deliver more content on time to justifying delays as part of the increasing scope.
2. The misrepresentation of delivery schedules, including maintaining a website with a release date that was known to be false.
3. Denying a customer access to paid features on content based on activity that occurred outside of CIG sites, admitting that the content was denied by reimbursing the customer, and then lying to the press about it.
4. Harvesting external information on customers (such as online identities outside of CIG sites) and maintaining that information as part of a customer support database.
5. Predatory marketing schemes in which high pressure tactics are used to encourage sales through statements of limited availability that later turn out to be false.
6. Selling "credit" for ships and then denying customers the ability to use that credit on certain packages to entice more sales.
7. Offering assets for sale that will not be delivered as part of commercial release while requiring customers sign a TOS that denies refunds once the game was commercially released.

It will take me awhile to put it all together, but I'm sure there will be at least a few investigatory agencies who will appreciate having this information wrapped up in time for Christmas.

Best of luck to you and your audience.

If it were up to me and I actually wanted to deliver a game: fire all but the absolute essential artists down to a team of 2-8 max, and focus on finding or making something that demonstrates an ability to support at least 100 players reliably in a single star system, scrapping StarEngine entirely if necessary. Alternatively, let go of all artists and just use programmer art till game systems work together in a proven manner, and then worry about fidelity.

As far as I can tell; as long as CryEngine/StarEngine is in play, nothing resembling the original promise can be delivered. It seems wholly unsuited for anything beyond a single player fps or 16-32 player multiplayer (1 zone).
Counter argument: list of games that use a version of CryEngine includes at least one MMO.

Speaking out of my rear end as I don't have standing in gamedev specifically; can someone with real-world experience explain how they might go about salvaging this? Assuming that is even possible.
