What annoys me about the whole "other games have taken a long time argument" is that it completely sidesteps the issue.

Yes, other good games have taken a long time, longer even than what Star Citizen has had.

But say GTA 5 had 5 years (I cant remember exactly it doesn't matter), do you think they'd have produced so little after 4 years? Hell no.

SC has been in Dev for 4 years now, I'll just chalk up 2011 as a Chris-lie to gain funding. The problem isn't that SC isn't done. Its they have so little to show for it after all this time. That's the elephant in the room. All those other actual good games you love to compare SC to had infinitely more done and produced after 4 years.

I was rereading this post and now I'm feeling grief. I have no friends so I will have to rely on a fully AI crew, but I fear the AI's smack talk might be somewhat repetitive and it will break my immersion and drain all the joy I'm getting from the raping. What's the loving point of being a pirate?

I hope Subsumption will be all Chris says it will and my crew mates will really want to rape and not just repeat a set of canned cheers.

To tell the truth, the whole "development timeline" "missed released dates" is all smoke anyways, the only thing the shitizens can hope to defend. It's all the other misrepresentation, lying, predatory and misleading sales tactics and outright mismanagement that they can't defend, so they fall back o the old reliable "it'll be out when it's out" defence.

Exactly. The whole "AAA games take years to develop" argument completely falls flat when you realise that other games will have core systems down in the first year or two, and Star Citizen has many, many core systems not even hinted at being done.

Creating huge playable worlds takes time. Scripting hundreds of missions or quests takes time. Doing code optimisation and debugging takes a hell of a lot of time. Yet Star Citizen is nowhere near any of those stages.

If you were really loving generous you could say they were maybe 25% done, so we're looking at a full release in 2029?!?!

SC might look good now (graphically), but it's gonna look average in 2 years and dated in 5. So what then Chris? Release your dated looking masterpiece in 2022 or send it all back for refactoring to bring it up to current standards?

I'm sure that a year out from release, GTA5 had at least 95% of its mechanics in place, and the show stopping bugs were very specific. The biggest "to be done" was probably scripting for specific missions. In a game that large, the last year is spent polishing mechanics, and finishing up art. A GTA5 alpha would've been a mostly playable, nearly complete game.

At least you don't have a mom that thinks you DON'T like something, and serves your xmas dinner up with that thing absent on your plate alone, and then complains loudly about having to remember not to put the thing on your plate because you "won't eat them", even though you're actually the ONLY person in the whole family who actually likes the thing you're being denied due to bad memory.
