(Azure guys will understand this one) 5) Elaborate PS scripts are created to spin-up and spin-down VM's to curtail costs based on demand. 6) Credentials. Egads...what a mess authenticating across. gently caress federation servicing. 7) Etc. Address all that to basically spool up the logical infrastructure to try to support what asinine application layer you are tossing on. Game should be a success after reading over everything.

It's seriously funny that Star Citizens don't realize that Amazon wants to be a publisher and start muscling into Steams revenue stream. Lumberyard is just one part of this effort, and Chris has unknowingly given up his dream game/movie to an openly predatory retail giant.

I just might be convinced about the engine change quotes from Chris and Erin being super quick, easy, and awesome and a win-win except they kept it a hardcore secret for the better part of a year and only told people when they were contractually obligated to on Friday evening before Christmas weekend.

I love that the engine change has become it's own airplane on a treadmill argument where people can't reconcile what they think is common sense. Obviously lumberyard and star engine are identical and the changeover was instantaneous. 3.8 = 3.8. fundamental changes to lumberyard years after the fact, completely changing the way things in starengine would have to have been constructed years prior, aren't issues. LY = SE. Imagine four game engines on the edge of a cliff. Game Development works the same way.

The bug-fixes were therefore iterations of successive deltas. And they kept this a secret to everyone with a small team. People like Ben Parry had no idea (if we are to believe him). The trouble with this scenario is that it would be impossible to track upstream changes to LY without significant pain. Your code looks almost like upstream but does something very different. Plus keeping it secret fails the same Hanlon's Razor test. They've been terrible at keeping secrets. 3. They only customized a portion of the code and found it easier to throw away and rebase than to merge. This kind of change only works if you have a specific area (like for example networking) that can be rebased without touching the rest of the codebase. I suspect this is what actually happened because it would be the easiest and quickest to do and therefore easiest to keep secret. It explains the kind of bugs they had with other parts of the software aside from those parts own bugs. They can then proceed to rebase other parts carefully over time if required but will still be a painful process. Still could have been done over months in secret, but Hanlon's Razor again, not for that long. So my conclusion is they threw away code and rebased code and then tried to backdate it to sound like a masterstroke but at the same time claim it was a two day job. In any case the "job" is only partly done, only a part of the code has been updated and the iterative process will continue to produce bugs due to the differences in other sections of code. So, while it may be called LY it's a mixture of the two codebases in some proportion and definitely over the limit to what could be freely shared.
