I can't remember where I saw this, but a while back I read about a little girl who left food out for the crows that hung out in her back yard. My house is right on a steep hill, so the upper branches of a couple of trees are right next to my kitchen window. This means that pretty frequently when I get up to get a glass of water, there will be a few birds sitting right outside the window. Usually it's a couple of random wrens but a few days ago a cardinal landed right at the window and started chirping.
