I figured she would win based on 2012 turnout alone, since Trump was so toxic, and I was completely wrong. She really was a much much worse candidate than I had thought. Considering that the press was among those slinging the mud, yes a different press approach would have made a difference. Also, it's unfair to compare hillarys numbers with that of the first black man to become president.

I'm not naive enough to think that the election was a referendum on neoliberalism, at least not in the sense that the average voter is even familiar enough with the word to explicitly reject it. But I think it shows that people are just exasperated with a political establishment that offers a variety of stances on equal rights issues but no economic program. I'm still only on Episode 9, and what I enjoy most about CTH is the skewering of this political/business/media aristocratic class who are just ludicrously out of touch with the public. Their obsession with civility among themselves is literally killing us.

Eh, go watch Mark Blyth's talks on Global Trumpism and the post election discussion. He makes a compelling argument that people affected by rust belt jobs moving south (and then eventually to Mexico/overseas) know what the past 30 years of neoliberal economic policies do since they've been at the poo poo end of the stick. Clinton ran on a campaign of "things are pretty OK if you ask me" and more of the same. It doesn't really need to be repeated, but it's still the clear marker that her campaign was turbofucked: the no name insurgent primary challenger came into striking distance of a nomination that had been hers for almost 3 years.

Interesting how Sister Hillary goes from being a world historical figure to a conventional politician at a moment's notice. Maybe if Obama hadn't told all of his organizers and supporters to go home and had passed legislation like card check instead of the Bush tax cuts more people would've turned out for the Democrats in 2010 and 2016.

I remember an Infowars.com sticker being on a stop sign in Crafton, PA (right outside Pittsburgh) from at the latest 2006, probably at least 3 years before that. I looked up infowars / Alex Jones around then. He only became generally known this election cycle though, right?

Yeah majorly the reason for Clinton's support wasn't out of her being someone appreciable but more because she was not Trump. If anything, the only genuine support I saw towards her was from teacher's unions because she did help teachers/public schooling quite a lot against charter schools. That lead to some... dirtbag left figures rambling on how public school teachers deserved the oncoming slaughter of removal of rights for not endorsing Bernie during the initial times around the election on my dash.
