Steam games run on whatever physical platforms you have available if the developers enabled compatibility at no extra charge. (PC, Mac, and Steambox). Phone games run on both your iPad and your iPhone, or your Android and Android tablet respectably, free of charge. And they run on all future platforms you ever buy, no matter how different the phone, tablet or computer are. Buying VC games for eternity, even for a small upgrade fee, is scroogy. I don't believe you're paying for the time to code emulation, 4 generations into Nintendo's effort to port old games to newer platforms (starting with the Gamecube), you are paying for their staunch position that their brand is always worth money and they aren't going to waive any fee they could possibly charge you for. There are phone games that don't run on newer versions of the os' if the devs don't update. The world ends with you on ios was straight up removed from the app store awhile ago, I don't know if they've released a fixed version for more recent ios released or if squeenix doesn't give a gently caress.

You own the software by virtue of having purchased it on the App Store

Continually rewriting emulators from scratch for every new console you do is far more difficult and expensive than making sure your Unity game runs OK on Linux. Still blows my mind that they managed SNES emulation on Nu3DS.

Yeah this is very true too. There have been a few "expensive" phone games that this happened to a few of them were fixed eventually but a lot of them were just straight up removed with no hope of fixing them. Its kinda bullshit but then again I have no idea how much actual work it is to update these drat things.

Probably the same kind of work that goes into getting old PC games working in modern OS's; The hardware is (fundamentally) the same, but the way system calls are made or how values are used can change wildly between OS versions simply because the new one may be geometrically more efficient. Old game's stuck expecting those specific old calls to work and thus breaks.

It was 10 GBA titles, and some people cobbled together some homebrew SNES emulation on the OG3DS and it wasn't great. It was functional, in the old school "well sprites are flickering and I'm getting weird slowdown and this emulator just doesn't work with a halfdozen games" way.

I never really had much trouble with the SuperCard emulation. I obviously didn't try every single SNES game on it, but I only had the occasional bit of slowdown during stuff like heavy use of mode 7. I assume anything using a SuperFX chip would be bad, but that wouldn't really be exclusive to the SuperCard's emulator.

I don't think it's possible at all, there's no off tv option from what I can remember. It doesn't even have game audio coming out of the gamepad which bugged me e: it's a great game though! Help Im Alive fucked around with this message at 01:48 on Jan 6, 2017 |

(you can still do this with a blank Wolf Link amiibo but he'll only have 3 hearts)

I hope we get an updated version of Tokyo Mirage Sessions for the Switch. It was an amazing game that was held back by dumb design/technical issues. I'm not sure what it was that broke me. The noticeable delay whenever you opened the menu (which you needed to do a lot), having to run down a long rear end corridor every time you wanted to switch/create weapons for your mirage, or having to look at the same stupid animation every time you forged a new weapon. That game loved to waste your time.
