They did the same thing last year with 2.0, they had everyone working on it despite telling everyone that SQ42 was still going to come out in 2015 and internally having scrapped all the models and animations.

I think the other organisation relinquished its rights to the Star Marine trademark last month (December 2016) sometime. CIG corp then started the process of registering the trademark. I think it's due to be published for opposition at the end of this month (January 2017). Seems like they found a way to solve that longstanding issue.

Reminder Frontier has released two titles in the time its taken CIG to make less than 1/100 of one. you wont be able to jump into another solar system in SC till mid 2018 at the earliest (unless Chris decides to throw their update schedule out the windows again to re-prioritize things. Very likely given reception of Elite's thargoid ship cutscene)

Battlefield 1 is way closer to the game Star Marine wants to be than Star Marine, I think that is pretty funny. But, also, it is a really good and fun game!
